Job description

Are you an immigration attorney looking for the path to freedom?

In typical attorney positions, it is easy to get lost in the grind and to lose sight of why you are doing what you’re doing and who you’re helping. It can also be challenging to see your path forward as an attorney. You may have been bombarded with work to get done on deadline leaving no time for advancement or life outside of work. There may have been little opportunity to work one on one with a mentor to talk through case strategy or best practices. That’s not the case here….

What if you could balance the attorney work with your lifestyle and bigger goals while also changing clients’ lives? Wouldn’t it be nice to work in a modern work environment where you have autonomy and have the mentorship of a senior attorney as your progress along your career track?

Hughes Law Group is ready to welcome an attorney like you. This opportunity is a unique blend of remote work with boutique firm environment and support. We are offering a full-time remote position with an opportunity for growth with the firm. We offer creative compensation packages that reward your impact.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a full docket of (non-detained) removal defense cases before EOIR, including hearings, motions, and appeals.
  • Lead all aspects of a small caseload of family-based and humanitarian immigration matters (I-130, AOS, waivers, asylum, U visas, VAWA, etc.).
  • Take full responsibility for cases from intake to resolution, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Draft and review legal filings, briefs, motions, and supporting documents (EOIR, BIA, and Ninth Circuit).
  • Represent clients before EOIR, USCIS, and other immigration agencies.
  • Supervise and mentor paralegals; review work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain strong, compassionate communication with clients throughout their case.
  • Stay current on immigration laws, policies, and best practices.

Hughes Law Group is a boutique immigration law firm located in Carson City, NV. We do not embrace a traditional law firm model but instead are driven by tailoring our approach to the individual client and providing excellent service. We support our employees and encourage continued learning and growth. We are a small, close-knit team that collaborates to serve each client. If you are energized by positively impacting the lives of others while simultaneously growing as an attorney, you'll love it at Hughes Law Group.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Minimum two years of experience with removal defense
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Upbeat self-starter who can work with limited oversight
  • Ability to manage a caseload and keep cases on track through completion
  • Organize and prioritize a variety of tasks to meet deadlines
  • Proactive in working with staff to best serve clients
  • Secret code 111 to be placed in email subject line when applying
  • Knowledge of general family immigration process
  • Creative legal arguments and extreme attention to detail in preparing motions, briefs, and supporting documents
  • Remote office/workspace setup.
