The Government Performance Portfolio within Program

Pew's Government Performance team provides the nonpartisan research, solutions, and momentum decisionmakers need to ensure our institutions improve the health of people in the United States and enable them to successfully climb the economic ladder.

Managing Fiscal Risks

Managing Fiscal Risks helps state policymakers evaluate and plan for risks to their states' fiscal long-term stability. Through research, technical assistance, and stakeholder engagement, the project aims to provide state policymakers with the tools and information they need to better evaluate new and emerging fiscal risks and uncertainty and their impact on state budgets. In addition to working with state policymakers, the project engages entities outside state government that play a significant role in states' long-term fiscal stability, notably the federal government and the municipal bond and insurance markets.

Position Overview

The associate I, research and policy, managing fiscal risks, will play an important role in strengthening state budgeting practices and helping states achieve fiscal stability. Reporting to the associate manager, managing fiscal risks, the associate I contributes to research, drafts and publications, develops subject matter expertise, and assists with stakeholder convenings and communications related to the impact of climate and other emerging risks on state budgets. As needed, the associate I will provide support for teamwide project management activities.

Located in Pew's DC office, this position will participate in Pew's core in-office days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and will have flexibility to work from home the remainder of each week.

Responsibilities

  • Foster a work environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible and in line with Pew and the project's related goals.
  • Conduct research, synthesize information, and contribute to the drafting of research projects focused on the impact of climate change and other emerging risks on state budgets.
  • Provide support for teamwide project management of large complex projects.
  • Support the project's efforts to manage grants and contracts.
  • Participate in activities that support program and Pew-wide objectives.



Requirements

  • Skilled at informing and influencing internal and external audiences through written and oral communications.
  • Aptitude to apply a non-partisan, evidence-based approach to research projects and outreach activities that require support across the political spectrum.
  • Experience in contributing to a team working on complex projects and achieving measurable results.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Generally, one year of applicable experience.



Key attributes and preferred experience

  • Skilled at developing and managing productive and collaborative relationships.
  • Experience with basic research practices and familiarity with public policy topics preferred.
  • Demonstrated time- and project-management skills, including a capacity to meet multiple deadlines by maintaining a high level of organization.



Travel

Travel is not expected for this position.

Work Authorization

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the country for which they are seeking employment without visa sponsorship.

Salary Range
$63,800 USD - $71,300 USD

The salary range represents a reasonable estimate of the annual salary based on Pew's commitment to provide equitable and market-competitive pay. The actual salary offered will take into consideration many factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills and experience, internal pay equity, and business need.
