Job summary

RBC Capital Markets, LLC in Houston seeks a geoscience professional to provide technical support for A&D project execution and business development. You will analyze subsurface geology, perform petrophysical work, and generate presentation materials for pitch books and data rooms.

Experience in onshore US basins (Permian, Eagle Ford, Bakken, Haynesville, Appalachia) and familiarity with cash-flow concepts is required. Licenses Series 79, SIE, and 63 are anticipated.

Qualifications

• MS Geology/Earth Science degree required.
• 5-7 years of prior related petroleum geology experience; energy investment banking or A&D experience with active exploration and production company a plus.
• Experience concentrated in onshore US lower 48, with background in Permian, Bakken, Eagle Ford, Anadarko, Haynesville, Appalachia.
• Majority of experience in reserves and evaluation; some operational exposure highly desired.
• Strong proficiency with Petra, Petrel, Geographix, Spotfire, ArcGIS, Excel and Access; experience with Kingdom and ARIES a plus.
• Experience with public datasets like Enverus and IHS.

What will you do?

• Provide geoscience technical support for A&D project execution and business development.
• Strong proficiency in subsurface geology required, additional experience in petrophysics preferred
• Generate presentation materials including cross-sections, subsurface maps, petrophysical analyses and other exhibits for pitch books, executive summaries and data room presentations. Some general graphic design work necessary when constructing presentation exhibits.
• Present results of subsurface analyses in pitch and data room settings
• Other such duties, responsibilities and authority as may be reasonably required
• Work directly at times with clients and investment bankers on highly confidential evaluations
• Proactively identify operational risks/control deficiencies in the business
• Review and comply with Firm Policies applicable to your business activities
• Escalate operational risk loss events, control deficiencies and risks that you identify to your line manager and the relevant risk and control functions promptly.

What do you need to succeed?

• MS Geology/Earth Science degree required; MBA preferred.
• 5 - 7 years of prior related petroleum geology experience; energy investment banking or A&D experience with active exploration and production company a plus.
• Experience should be concentrated in onshore US lower 48, with strong working background in major basins/plays including Permian, Bakken, Eagle Ford, Anadarko, Haynesville, and Appalachia
• Majority of experience should be in reserves and evaluation, however, some operational exposure highly desired.
• Strong proficiency with software such as Petra, Petrel, Geographix, Spotfire, ArcGIS, Excel and Access required. Background in other analytical and evaluation software such as Kingdom and ARIES, etc. would be a plus
• Experience with public datasets like Enverus and or IHS required
• Candidate must commercially oriented and understand the fundamentals of cash flow, economics and rate of return, as well as the ability to assess technical risk qualitatively as well as quantitatively
• Highly motivated with demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and requests
• Ability to take initiative and function independently, balanced with strong team skills
• Strong written and oral communication skills - must be able to present and defend geological analyses to large groups
• Requires excellent interpersonal skills with ability to maintain relationships at all levels of internal and external organizations
• Must maintain high standards of professional and ethical conduct
• Position will require Series 79, SIE, and 63 licenses
