Job summary

S&ME in Cincinnati, Ohio, is seeking an Associate Geophysicist to join our team. This entry-level position focuses on near-surface geophysical surveys, site observations, and support for data processing and environmental exploration, with roughly 75% field time.

You will work with a team delivering geotechnical and environmental projects, gain exposure to seismic, EM, GPR, ER, IP, and other methods, and contribute to proposals, reports, and client engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in geophysics, geology, or a related field.
  • 0 to 3 years of professional experience.
  • Familiarity with near-surface geophysical methods (e.g., seismic, EM, GPR, ER, SP, IP, microgravity).

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and execute field surveys: Plan, organize, and perform near-surface geophysical surveys using a variety of advanced methodologies under minimal supervision.
  • Assist with data processing: Support basic geophysical data processing and interpretation tasks, ensuring accuracy and consistency in deliverables.
  • Ensure data quality and compliance: Conduct QA/QC on field data, verify adherence to project goals, and identify limitations or anomalies in real time.
  • Contribute to proposals and reporting: Assist in proposal preparation, draft report sections, and provide technical input to support project documentation.
  • Maintain equipment and support marketing: Oversee calibration, organization, maintenance, and scheduling of geophysical equipment while participating in marketing efforts and client engagement activities.

About The Role:

As an Associate Geophysicist, you will primarily execute near-surface geophysical surveys and perform site observations, while also providing support for geophysical data processing as well as geotechnical and environmental exploration, allowing our team to deliver accurate subsurface insights for engineering and environmental projects. Approximately 75% of your time will be spent in the field, ensuring the integrity and reliability of geophysical data that supports safe infrastructure development and sustainable solutions. This role provides exposure to a wide range of geophysical techniques and offers opportunities to contribute to innovative projects that shape the future of the industry.

About You:
  • You have a Bachelor's degree in geophysics, geology, or a related field
  • You have 0 to 3 years of professional experience
  • You have familiarity or experience with any of the following Geophysical methods:
    • Seismic Refraction
    • Seismic Surface Waves
    • Borehole Logging
    • Electromagnetic Induction (EM)
    • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
    • Electrical Resistivity (ER)
    • Spontaneous Potential (SP)
    • Induced Polarization (IP)
    • Microgravity
You Are Willing and Able to:

Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:

  • Primarily working outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions
  • Routinely lifting and carrying equipment and materials up to 50+ pounds
  • Regularly traveling (including out-of-town or overnight) for various projects as needed
