Join our team as an Associate General Counsel in the Optum Health Business Development Legal team. This legal team oversees and supports Business Development goals within Optum Health, with primary responsibility over acquisitions, divestitures, and other transactions. This team works closely with operational stakeholders, business development teams across the enterprise, and various legal teams to advocate and execute effective, efficient, and strategic transaction results.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide a full range of legal advice and services in areas such as M&A, acquisitions, divestitures, commercial law, contracts law, anti-trust, regulatory and compliance
  • Negotiate and execute on complex transactions and other strategic priorities
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders and partner with internal teams in support of transactions
  • Assess legal risks and work with business and operational teams to mitigate and manage
  • Provide business partners across the enterprise with insights and guidance on legal issues and their commercial implications
  • Manage multiple transaction project timelines simultaneously with excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills

Required Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctorate degree with active license to practice law in at least one state
  • 3+ years of progressively senior experience in complex transactional work
  • M&A experience
  • Experience successfully managing staff and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Strategic thinking with experience developing a long-term plan and ensuring its execution
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, works well in a team environment, able to work in diverse environments and adhere to highest ethical standards
  • Proven analytical skills and strategic decision-making ability
  • Impressive executive presence with the ability to gain credibility, rapport, and support from key internal and external stakeholders
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • Solid influencing skills and ability to display a solid sense of versatility in relating to different levels within the organization and people with varying backgrounds, priorities, and ideas. Be able to facilitate consensus and directions for change.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of M&A experience working on transactional deal teams
  • Specific transactional experience in healthcare

The salary range for this role is $124,500 to $239,400 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
