We are seeking a qualified attorney for the UnitedHealthcare legal department, Northeast Region, for the Network Legal Team. The lawyer will support the development and management of UnitedHealthcare’s provider network, including hospitals, physicians, and other providers across commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid plans. Responsibilities include negotiating major provider contracts, supporting legal needs related to contractual disputes, and contributing to enterprise-wide initiatives like affordability and new product expansion.

Remote work flexibility is available from anywhere in the U.S.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Provide legal support for Northeast Region network markets (VA, WV, MD, DC, PA, DE, NY, NJ, MA, ME, VT, RI).
  2. Collaborate with attorneys and legal professionals across the enterprise.
  3. Advise leadership on legal aspects of relationships with healthcare providers.
  4. Draft and negotiate complex contracts with healthcare providers.
  5. Manage dispute resolution, arbitration support, and settlement drafting.
  6. Develop industry knowledge and understanding of provider network operations.

Required Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • Law license in one or more states.
  • At least 5 years of relevant legal experience.
  • Experience advising senior leadership.
  • Proficiency in drafting and negotiating complex contracts.
  • Experience in highly regulated industries.
  • Ability to collaborate within a legal team.
  • Proven results-driven mindset.
  • Strong work ethic and communication skills.
  • Ability to assess legal options to meet business needs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing pre-litigation matters.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory agencies and laws.
  • Understanding of healthcare benefits and managed care industry.

The salary range is $124,500 to $239,400 annually, based on full-time employment and various factors. Benefits include comprehensive packages, incentive programs, equity stock purchase, and 401(k).
