We are seeking an experienced attorney to join the Reinsurance Legal Team within General Insurance (GI) at AIG.

The team provides high-quality advisory, transactional, and regulatory support on ceded and assumed reinsurance matters globally. This role supports time-sensitive, high-visibility projects that are key to AIG’s strategic initiatives. The position reports to the Deputy General Counsel for Reinsurance.

As a leader, you are respected for your technical expertise and ability to oversee programs and processes. You balance the needs of multiple stakeholders and take ownership of key outcomes. The successful candidate will work on a variety of matters and interact with senior business leaders at AIG. Responsibilities include:

  1. Negotiating the legal aspects of GI’s ceded reinsurance treaty programs worldwide.
  2. Advising on reinsurance-related strategic transactions, including M&A, capital markets, and insurance-linked securities (ILS).
  3. Advising on ceded and assumed facultative reinsurance transactions.
  4. Analyzing contractual aspects of internal reinsurance arrangements.
  5. Structuring and implementing reinsurance aspects of complex multinational programs.
  6. Drafting and negotiating reinsurance and collateral documentation for global captive reinsurance programs.
  7. Collaborating with global attorneys to address legal, regulatory, and compliance issues related to reinsurance.

Requirements:

  1. Juris Doctor and U.S. state bar admission.
  2. Minimum 4+ years of legal experience, with law firm and/or in-house counsel background.
  3. Experience with (re)insurance matters and related corporate transactions preferred.
  4. Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Ability to work collaboratively across a global organization and independently.

Compensation for positions based in New York ranges from $191,000 to $204,000, plus potential bonuses and benefits. Details of benefits are available in the US Benefits Overview.
