Job summary

Friedman Real Estate seeks an experienced Associate General Counsel to advise leadership on litigation, regulatory compliance and enterprise risk. You will oversee complex legal matters, coordinate with outside counsel, and safeguard the organization while supporting governance and strategic initiatives.

This role requires a JD, active Michigan license, and 5+ years in litigation, compliance and risk management.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active Michigan law license in good standing.
• 5+ years of legal experience in litigation, regulatory compliance, risk management and corporate matters.
• Ability to manage complex litigation, disputes and outside counsel relationships.
• Strong knowledge of corporate governance, licensing, permitting and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Manage company litigation, receivership disputes, subpoenas, government complaints, settlements and other legal proceedings.
• Serve as primary legal resource for litigation and dispute matters, coordinating with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
• Oversee litigation administration: intake, budgets, reporting, tracking, documents and deadlines.
• Advise leadership on legal compliance, governance, permitting, licensing and entity management.
• Maintain corporate records and compliance documentation across entities.
• Partner with HR on labor and employment matters, investigations and regulatory compliance.
• Lead department involvement in risk management, including insurance claims, incident response and crisis management.
• Develop and maintain legal policies, templates, playbooks and contract management resources.
• Coordinate with courts, agencies, insurers, clients, lenders and vendors as needed.
• Provide practical, business-focused legal counsel supporting operations and strategy.
• Take on special projects and other responsibilities.
