Job summary

Central State University in Ohio seeks an experienced Associate General Counsel (Compliance) to enforce internal controls and ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws. You will support the General Counsel with legal reviews and compliance initiatives across campus.

The role involves partnering with Student Affairs, Campus Safety, HR, and other departments to uphold FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act, VAWA, and OSHA standards, while coordinating training, audits, and policy development.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor and Ohio bar admission (or ability to obtain).
• Cross designation as Assistant Attorney General may require additional interview/background check.
• Minimum five years’ legal practice with at least 3 years in higher education, public sector, or compliance.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Strong collaboration and time-management skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state regulations in higher education compliance.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Research and interpret rules, regulations and policies as requested by General Counsel.
• Advise Student Affairs, Campus Safety and internal departments to ensure FERPA, Title IX, VAWA and Clery Act compliance.
• Advise Human Resources to ensure compliance with FMLA, FLSA, ADA, EEO, USERRA and OSHA.
• Assist General Counsel with internal audits of regulated areas to ensure compliance.
• Stay current on trends and legislative updates relevant to higher education and share with stakeholders.
• Serve as a legal resource for all departments.
• Develop and participate in training programs to enhance compliance.
• Coordinate with departments to enforce regulations concerning hazardous materials.
