Qualifications

Associate General Counsel focused on AI product and privacy, embedded with product and engineering teams to advise from concept through launch, own the global privacy program, shape AI governance, support commercial transactions, and build legal processes and tooling.

Key Responsibilities

• Counsel product and engineering teams on privacy regulation, intellectual property, consumer protection, and enterprise use cases.
• Own and operate Arena’s global privacy program with emphasis on privacy-by-design and compliance with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and international privacy law.
• Advise on responsible AI development, emerging AI regulation, and novel legal questions at the intersection of privacy, AI, and human evaluation.
• Design and maintain contractual and operational frameworks for data flows; negotiate privacy provisions with customers, partners, and vendors.
• Build and scale privacy and product legal processes, create playbooks, implement systems, build internal software/agents, and procure legal tech tools.

Requirements

• 8+ years of legal experience in privacy and product counseling at a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department, ideally with consumer product experience.
• JD and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred) in good standing.
• Demonstrated experience independently building and running a global privacy program with hands-on familiarity with GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and cross-border data transfer mechanisms.
• Proven ability to advise product and engineering teams in real time and translate legal requirements into practical, build-ready guidance.
• Strategic thinking and deep attention to detail for complex problem solving and business-forward solutions.
• Strong risk calibration and the ability to communicate legal vs business risk to executives, product, and technical audiences.
• Collaborative, organized, and agile in fast-paced environments and under regulatory/launch deadlines.
• Technical fluency and deep interest in AI, generative AI, and machine learning technologies to engage with technical teams on data architecture and evaluation.
• Ability to build and iterate on internal tools; experience with tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Replit, Loveable, and/or Retool.

Bonus

• Experience advising on consumer products or multi-sided marketplaces and building controller-focused global privacy programs.
• Experience advising on de-identification and anonymization data pipelines.
