Florida State University is seeking an Associate General Counsel to coordinate, monitor, and represent university interests in litigation and to provide broad legal guidance to the Board of Trustees, President, Academic Deans, and department heads.

The role includes advising Student Affairs on student issues, handling contracts and affiliation agreements, and providing guidance on FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, the First Amendment, public records, investigations, and IP and research issues.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school and active member in good standing of The Florida Bar.
  • Minimum two years in law practice.
  • Experience advising on FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, First Amendment matters and related governance issues is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Associate General Counsel coordinates, monitors, and represents University interests in litigation.
  • Provides general legal advice to the Board of Trustees, President, Academic Deans and Department Heads.
  • Advises on student issues including Student Affairs, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Title IX and International Programs.
  • Provides legal support on contracts and affiliation agreements.
  • Provides guidance on FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, First Amendment, public records, academic issues, investigations, compliance, IP and research issues, and employment issues.
  • Represents the University before DOAH, OCR, FCHR and in federal/state courts.

  • Associate General Counsel is principally responsible for coordinating, monitoring, and representing University interests in litigation and providing general legal advice on myriad matters affecting the University. .
  • The position will be responsible for providing legal advice to the University Board of Trustees, President, Academic Deans and Department Heads, and other senior officials and staff on myriad matters affecting the University.
  • This position will serve as principal University legal counsel in coordinating, monitoring, and advising on student issues, including advising Student Affairs and Student Conduct and Community Standards, Title IX and International Programs.
  • This position will provide legal support and advice on contracts and affiliation agreements.
  • This position will provide legal support and advice, as needed, related to FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, the First Amendment, Student Organizations, public records, academic issues, investigations, compliance, intellectual property and research issues, and employment issues.
  • This position will serve as University counsel in coordinating, monitoring and representing University interests in litigation.
  • This position will represent the University before administrative bodies, such as DOAH, OCR, and FCHR, as well as in federal and state courts.
