We're building an AI-first legal function— one where AI handles the first draft, the document review, and the busywork, and lawyers spend their time on judgment, strategy, and the things that matter. You won't just advise a company that automates insurance; you'll help prove what an automated legal department looks like.

What You'll Do

As Associate General Counsel , you'll be a senior member of the legal team with real ownership from day one. Your foundation is litigation, your scope is the full waterfront of in-house work: commercial contracts, employment, compliance, corporate matters, and whatever else a fast-scaling carrier throws at you. You'll also help design the AI-first playbooks, workflows, and tooling that let a lean legal team punch far above its headcount.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and direct outside counsel; control budgets, set strategy, and hold work product to a high standard.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements.
• Advise on employment matters, internal investigations, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance.
• Build AI-augmented legal workflows: playbooks, templates, and automated processes so recurring legal work runs at scale, not one-off.
• Evaluate and deploy AI legal tools; be an internal champion for what works and an honest critic of what doesn't.
• Partner cross-functionally with operations, product, and compliance to spot risk early and resolve issues before they elevate.
• Give leadership clear-eyed, business‑minded counsel on exposure, risk, and resolution paths.

What We're Looking For

• JD from an accredited law school; admitted and in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• A strong litigation background is strongly preferred — substantive experience managing disputes end-to-end, whether at a firm, in‑house, or both.
• Breadth beyond litigation: experience with (or genuine appetite for) generalist in‑house work— contracts, employment, compliance, and corporate matters.
• Enthusiasm for AI‑first legal practice. You don't need to be an engineer, but you should be genuinely curious about AI tools and eager to rebuild how legal work gets done— not just tolerate it.
• Strong judgment and the ability to distill legal risk for non‑legal stakeholders.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and rapid change; you'll be expected to balance speed with legal soundness.
• Extreme ownership. You run matters with limited support and you like it that way.
