Talanto seeks entry-level Associate Fire Protection Engineers for its Mid-Atlantic offices in Rockville, MD, Columbia, MD, Fairfax, VA, and Blacksburg, VA. Winter 2025 and Spring 2026 graduates are welcome to apply and join our global team of engineers, scientists and consultants.

You will perform professional fire protection engineering under supervision, develop plans and reports, and support code analyses and design tasks as you advance toward licensure with our guidance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or higher in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Civil or Architectural Engineering or related field.
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication to write reports and respond to questions.
  • Passion advancing the science of safety and exceeding client expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional-level fire protection services such as life safety code consulting and sprinkler design under supervision.
  • Develop plans, specifications and inspection reports for assigned tasks.
  • Assist in resolving design problems with field investigations and coordination.
  • Identify applicable codes and standards for reference.
  • Conduct basic building code analyses, egress analyses, and smoke control reviews.
  • Apply engineering calculations for size, egress, and sprinkler water supplies.
  • Submit progress reports to Project Managers.
  • Potentially assist with CAD/document production.
  • Read and interpret business journals, procedures, and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform professional-level fire protection engineering services such as life safety code consulting, sprinkler design, fire alarm design, performance-based fire engineering design, under the direction of a P.E. or an experienced consultant.
  • Develop plans, specifications, and inspection reports as needed on assigned tasks to see that these items are complete, accurate and in accordance with good professional service practice standards.
  • Assist in the resolution of design problems by performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work, and detailed checking of design computations done by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
  • Identify applicable codes and standards to reference in evaluating how to respond to inquiries.
  • Conduct and document basic building code analyses, egress analyses, fire detection and alarm systems reviews, smoke control systems reviews, and basic sprinkler and water supply systems reviews, including hydraulic calculations.
  • Apply engineering calculations including size required, means of egress, maximum allowable building area, sprinkler system water supplies and smoke control equipment.
  • Submit progress reports to Project Managers and Project Leaders.
  • Position may involve some CADD document preparation/production.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
