Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is seeking an Underwriter to review and analyze risk for renewals, proposals, and benefit changes. You will negotiate with sales or account management on price and product configuration, support, document, and communicate decisions to internal teams.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of underwriting experience or a relevant degree, strong communication, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• 2+ years related experience or bachelor’s degree in lieu of experience.
• High school diploma (or equivalent).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes and evaluates risk for renewals, proposals, and benefit changes.
• Negotiates with sales or account management for final price and product configuration.
• Prepares documentation and communicates underwriting decisions to internal customers.
• Develops and maintains documentation on underwriting processes and systems.

The Impact You Will Have

This position is responsible for reviewing, preparing and analyzing risk for renewals, proposals, and benefit changes. The underwriter is responsible for negotiation with sales or account management for final price and product configuration, support, documentation, and communication of the same.

What You’ll Do

• Analyzes and evaluates existing and new business standard risk.
• Provides communication to internal customers on underwriting decisions.
• Develops and maintains documentation on underwriting processes and systems.

How You’ll Do It

• Assists Underwriter and Senior Underwriter as requested.
• Completes special projects assigned by management.
• Keeps abreast of current underwriting practices, rating tools, industry changes and state and federal healthcare reform mandates.
• Provides assistance and work direction to Underwriting Support.

Required Skills & Experience

• 2+ years related experience or bachelor’s degree in lieu of experience.
• High school diploma (or equivalent)

• Knowledge of underwriting principles, health insurance concepts, risk selection, industry practices.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Individual and Small Group eligibility, state/federal regulations and medical terminology.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Compensation And Benefits

Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $69,100.00 - $85,000.00 Annual

Pay is based on several factors which vary based on position, including skills, ability, and knowledge the selected individual is bringing to the specific job.
