Job summary

Roto-Group-LLC is seeking an Associate Exhibit Painter to support the fabrication team and learn finishing techniques for exhibits, displays, and themed environments. The role is entry-level, focusing on hands-on learning under experienced painters and a production manager's guidance.

You will assist with surface preparation, priming, painting, masking, and equipment maintenance while developing skills to progress toward a full Painter position in a fast-paced shop and client-site environments.

Qualifications

  • No prior professional experience required.
  • 0–2 years of related experience, coursework or hobby projects in painting/finishing is a plus.
  • Basic aptitude for learning to operate finishing equipment safely.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation, sanding, surface filling, masking, priming, painting, staining, and top coating of exhibits and signs.
  • Learn to operate finish prep and finishing equipment including spray booth, HVLP sprayers, and cup finish guns under supervision.
  • Assist with assembling/disassembling structures into exhibit pieces in shop and at client locations.
  • Help prepare samples, scaled models, and mock-ups for client approvals in various materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized shop and participate in weekly spray booth maintenance.

Job description

The Associate Exhibit Painter supports the fabrication team while learning to finish interactive and scenic-treated exhibits, interpretive displays, themed environments, and structures from shop/construction drawings and finish schedules, under the direct guidance and supervision of experienced Painters and the Fabrication Production Manager. This is an entry-level, hands-on learning role designed to build the finishing skills needed to grow into a full Painter position.Essential FunctionsAssist with preparation, sanding, surface filling, masking, priming, painting, staining, and top coating of exhibits, displays, scenic facades, and graphic signs, using both common and a variety of unusual materials as required by the project.Learn to safely operate standard finish preparation and finishing equipment — including spray booth equipment, sanders, HVLP sprayers and pumps, and cup finish guns — under direct supervision, progressing toward independent use as skills develop.Assist with assembling and disassembling structures and devices into exhibit structures, both in the shop and occasionally at client locations.Help prepare and finish samples for client approvals, scaled models, and mock-ups in wood, plywood, plastics, foam, or similar modeling products.Keep shop and personal workspace clean, organized, and well-supplied.Assist with regular (weekly) paint booth maintenance and cleaning.Demonstrate strong attendance, promptness, professionalism, attention to detail.Education, Experience, Skills, and AbilitiesNo prior professional experience required. 0–2 years of related experience required. Relevant experience through coursework, or hands-on personal/hobbyist projects in painting, finishing, or a related trade is a plus.High school diploma or equivalent required.Genuine interest in learning production finishing, painting, and scenic treatment techniques.Willingness to take direction, ask questions, and learn from experienced team members and mentors.Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced shop environment (e.g., sanding, masking, and finishing while other pieces are flashing, drying, and curing).Basic aptitude for, and willingness to learn, the maintenance and cleaning of industrial finishing equipment.Reliable, punctual, and able to work collaboratively as part of a team.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.Physical RequirementsExtended work hours may be required.Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 100 lbs) and work from lifts, ladders, and high platforms.Must be able to work in shop conditions, which may include changing temperatures and conditions.Ability to verbally communicate with team members and clients.Must be able to lift, bend, twist, squat, and stand for prolonged periods of time (upwards of 8+ hours).
