Job summary

Layton Construction in Nashville seeks an Associate Estimator to assist with estimate preparation for commercial and civil projects. You will support senior estimators, perform quantity take-offs, read plans, and help with bid proposals.

Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management and are familiar with design-build estimating. Proficiency with Destini, BlueBeam, Assemble, and On Screen Take-off is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management related field or equivalent education and experience.
• Experience with design-build estimating is preferred.
• Working knowledge of Detini Estimator software and recent estimating tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assists in preparing estimates for potential projects using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs and prices information.
• Assists with bid proposals and outline schedules for proposed projects.

Education

Summary

An Associate Estimator prepares estimates for various projects, shares responsibility for cost accuracy with project team and assists other estimators and managers in all types of estimating tasks.

Duties

• Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
• Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
• Assists other in preparing estimates for potential projects, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
• Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
• Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
• Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Preferred working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other latest software and technology.
• Preferred working knowledge of On Screen Take-off
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Appropriate knowledge of construction practices and methods.
• Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems preferred.
