Job summary

Layton Construction is seeking an Associate Estimator to support cost estimates across multiple project types. You will work with the project team to ensure accuracy, assist other estimators, and help prepare bid proposals with careful quantity take-offs and pricing analysis.

The role requires a civil engineering or construction management background, experience with estimating tools like Destini Estimator and BlueBeam, and strong communication to meet tight deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management or equivalent experience.
• Experience with Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam and estimating tools preferred.
• Familiarity with On Screen Take-off and MS Office suite required.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to work under deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepare estimates for projects using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual methods.
• Read and interpret contract documents, specs and addenda.
• Perform quantity take-offs, price data organization and bid analysis.
• Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers and clarify pricing.
• Assist with bid submittal and outline project schedules.

Summary

An Associate Estimator prepares estimates for various projects, shares responsibility for cost accuracy with project team and assists other estimators and managers in all types of estimating tasks.

Duties

• Champions “The Layton Way” by delivering predictable outcomes for internal teams, external teams, and customers.
• Ensures that “Constructing with Integrity” is delivered by working with honesty, unity, safety, and quality of work.
• Assists other in preparing estimates for potential projects, using hard-bid, design-build and conceptual estimating.
• Reads and understands contract documents (plans, specifications & addenda).
• Performs quantity take-offs, organizes and prices information.
• Solicits bids and quotes from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Communicates with subs and suppliers to clarify pricing information.
• Prepares estimate formats in such areas as general conditions, general bidding, quantity takeoffs and bid analysis.
• Assists with the preparation of bid proposal for submittal.
• Prepares outline schedules for proposed projects.
• Assists staff members with various special projects related to estimating.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management related field, or equivalent education and experience.
• Preferred working knowledge of Destini Estimator software, BlueBeam, Assemble, and other latest software and technology.
• Preferred working knowledge of On Screen Take-off
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Work, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Ability to work under pressure and to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to operate office equipment, such as computer, printer, phone, copier, fax, etc.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Appropriate knowledge of construction practices and methods.
• Working knowledge of Revit and Primavera systems preferred.
