Job summary

Swagelok in Northeast Ohio seeks an Associate Environmental, Safety & Compliance (ESC) to support site leadership, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental and safety regulations across multiple facilities.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, 2 years in E&S or manufacturing, strong MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint skills, and excellent verbal and written communication.

Qualifications

• Education and experience as specified in the job posting: High School Diploma or GED; an Associate degree or certificate in Environmental & Safety is preferred; a Bachelor's degree is a plus.
• Two years of work experience in Environmental & Safety or manufacturing.
• Strong computer and typing skills; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to work independently and multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a visible presence on the shop floor and assists with environmental and safety inquiries.
• Partners with site management to support daily operations and continuous improvement from an E&S perspective.
• Ensures compliance with records retention and regulatory reporting (hazardous waste, SERC, TRI, LEPC).
• Oversees and conducts training and maintains records for local environmental and safety programs.
• Conducts hazard assessments and recommends PPE.
• Supports workplace incident investigations and root-cause analyses under OHS programs.
• Presents environmental and safety performance metrics to management.
• Demonstrates understanding of E&S programs and training materials.
• Provides backup support for other ESCs and promotes safety culture.
• Participates in local safety or response teams and may act as facilitator.

The Associate ESC provides environmental and safety related support to their site management teams, participates in continuous improvement initiatives, and ensures compliance with Swagelok’s programs, policies, and practices in conjunction with Federal, State, and Local environmental and safety regulations. In addition, the Associate ESC may be responsible for providing training and overseeing compliance activities at multiple facilities or operational areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Maintains a visible presence on the shop floor and demonstrates a sense of urgency; is available for environmental and safety related inquiries and suggestions.
• Partners with site management teams to support daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives from an environmental and safety perspective and assists in projects aligned with business objectives.
• Ensure compliance with the local Calendar of Events and maintain records per the Records Retention Policy. (Including but not limited to industrial hygiene monitoring, waste stream identification and disposal; preparing and maintaining data required for federal, state and local reporting such as Annual Hazardous Waste, State Emergency Response Commission (SERC), Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), and Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC)).
• Oversees and conducts training and maintains training records for local environmental and safety programs.
• Conducts hazard assessments and identifies appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Support workplace incident investigations and root cause analyses in accordance with our OHS programs.
• Present environmental and safety performance metrics to management teams periodically.
• Demonstrate a clear understanding of environmental and safety programs and the associated training/communication materials.
• Provides backup support for other ESCs as required; promotes safety culture.
• Actively participates in local safety or response teams and may act as the facilitator.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree or certificate program in an Environmental & Safety related discipline preferred. Bachelor’s degree a plus.

Experience: Two years' work experience in the Environmental and Safety or manufacturing field.

Skills/Knowledge: Excellent general computer and typing skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Effective verbal and written communication skills. The ability to work independently, manage time effectively and multi-task is required.

Working conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

• Working conditions associated with normal office environment.
• Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, copier, printer, etc.).

• Ability to traverse between multiple locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania as needed.
• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards.
