Job summary

Pickett, an ESP Associates company in Lakewood, CO, seeks an Associate Engineer to provide entry-level engineering on high-voltage transmission projects. You will assist with line routing, PLS-CADD modeling, foundation design, and permitting, while coordinating with vendors and subcontractors.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in Engineering (EI/EIT preferred), 1+ year of related experience, and knowledge of NESC/IEEE/ASCE/ACI standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering is required (ABET preferred).
• EI/EIT certification is preferred.
• 1+ year of transmission line engineering experience.
• Familiarity with NESC, IEEE, ASCE, and ACI standards.
• Ability to prepare technical reports and sketches.
• Demonstrated safe work practices and driving record.

About the Role:

As an Associate Engineer, you will provide entry-level engineering/technical expertise on electric transmission design projects for high-voltage (HV) overhead utility systems.

This position prepares guidance for line routing, survey coordination, PLS-CADD modeling, structure design, foundation design, clearance checks, plan/profile development, material specification and procurement, constructability evaluations, work order package preparation, permitting, vendor/subcontractor coordination and construction support.

What You Will Be Doing:

• Learn and understand design criteria


• Build design models using the PLS software suite


• Develop and analyze foundation designs (e.g. FAD, FD6, APile, LPile)


• Spot structures and evaluate clearance and structural utilization in PLS-CADD


• Evaluate and provide commentary on design alternatives


• Run reports in PLS-CADD (e.g. Structure Checks, Stringing Charts, etc.)


• Compose work packages, release letters and more


• Produce accurate estimates of man-hours required and completion dates for tasks


• Effectively manage multiple tasks for multiple projects

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (required)


• EI/EIT certification (preferred)


• 1+ years of related transmission line engineering experience in the electric utility industry (preferred)


• Experience with design codes and standards such as NESC, IEEE, ASCE and ACI


• Understanding of basic practices for researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting recommendations


• Ability to prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches


• Ability to work in a safe manner and obey safety regulations at all times.


• Ability to be a self-starter and thrive in an unstructured, varied, and deadline-driven work environment


• Effective communication skills (verbal, written and presentation skills)


• Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company’s driving (MVR) policy
