Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP in New York is seeking a Distribution Planning Engineer to perform distribution studies, analyze DER interconnections, and support grid modernization efforts.

You will collaborate with internal teams, use GIS and power flow tools, and contribute to storm restoration and project design. A BSEE with power system concentration is preferred, with 0-2 years of experience in distribution planning.

Qualifications

• BSEE with power system concentration preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience in Distribution Planning or related field.
• Knowledge of regulatory standards (NERC/NPCC/ISO/PUC).
• Ability to document engineering work and review others' work.

Responsibilities

• Perform distribution studies (voltage, thermal, N-1, power factor).
• Assess DER interconnections (PV and battery storage) at multiple voltage levels.
• Apply distribution criteria and identify deficiencies in the system.
• Recommend Distribution Automation devices and develop designs aligned with objectives.
• Use GIS, power flow, and protection analysis tools in day-to-day planning.
