Job summary

Amgen is seeking an Associate in the Process Development Drug Substance Technology group at FleX Batch Biologics Manufacturing Facility. The role involves executing bench-scale experiments across the end-to-end Drug Substance process, including cell culture and purification operations.

The candidate will apply established platform approaches, solve day-to-day experimental challenges, and develop expertise in cell culture and purification to contribute to integrated team goals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Biomedical, or related Engineering, Life Sciences, or other relevant sciences.
  • Hands-on experience with cell culture and/or purification operations.
  • Basic understanding of cell culture, protein chromatography, and filtration principles.
  • Ability to identify and solve problems using scientific and engineering principles in a process development environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in a dynamic, collaborative setting.

Responsibilities

  • Manage lab equipment maintenance.
  • Batch media and buffers required for use in the PD lab.
  • Assist on small-scale bioprocess experiments spanning cell culture and/or purification operations.
  • Ensure safety and compliance of process development activities.
  • Experimental design and data interpretation using in-house visualization and analytics tools.
  • Contribute within a project team on commercial manufacturing goals such as improving process yield and robustness, and scaling-up processes to manufacturing sites.
  • Communicate findings through oral presentations and written documentation (technical reports and GMP documents for regulatory filings).

ASSOCIATE
What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will be a part of the Process Development Drug Substance Technology group at Amgen’s FleX Batch Biologics Manufacturing Facility. The Process Development Associate will help execute and perform experiments at the bench scale that span the end-to-end Drug Substance process, covering cell culture and/or purification operations. In this role, you will apply established platform approaches and utilize problem-solving skills to rapidly solve day-to-day experimental challenges. Additionally, the Process Development Associate will utilize out-of-the-box thinking to contribute to technology development and will demonstrate the desire to expand and develop expertise in cell culture and/or purification, thereby further contributing to the integrated group.

Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma / GED and 6 years of biologics process development or commercial-scale technical support experience OR
  • Associate’s degree and 4 years of biologics process development or commercial-scale technical support experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Biomedical, or related Engineering; Life Sciences; or other relevant sciences
  • Experience and demonstrated interest in laboratory work, particularly hands-on experience with cell culture and/or purification operations
  • Basic understanding of cell culture, protein chromatography, and filtration principles
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems by applying scientific and engineering principles, preferably in a process development environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work flexibly in a dynamic and collaborative environment with diverse team members
  • Familiarity with design of experiments and statistical analysis of data

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
