Associate/Engineer Generalist (Facilities Dept)
LEVEL: Non-Exempt
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Reports to the Senior Director of Physical Plant Operations/Chief Engineer
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Performs basic plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and electrical repairs including installations
- Ability to operate stationary and hand-power tools
- Performs snow removal with hand and power snow removal equipment
- Ability to lift and move 100 lb. weight
- Ability to climb a 6-foot ladder and down the other side
- Work within Federal/OSHA, State, and Local safety requirements
- Monitor the Facility's email and respond as appropriate
- The following is a comprehensive list of Department responsibilities that the position will either perform independently or assist with supervision:
- Operation and maintenance of major HVAC equipment, ventilation/filtration systems
- Operates building automation system
- Troubleshoots pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric controls
- Understanding of fire pumps and Fire Protection Systems
- Maintains and understands the College campus, including grounds
- Works with vendors and subcontractors
- Interacts with various departments
- Works with day porters and housekeeping regarding set-up of functions, employee/student requests, emergent issues of any kind
- Other duties as assigned, which may include painting and emergency cleaning tasks
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- High school diploma technical school training
- Experience in operating and maintaining building systems
- Any licenses are a plus
- Physical capability to perform all assignments
- Familiar with building mechanical systems
- Ability to operate scissors or boom (aerial) lift a plus
- Must maintain OSHA maintenance standards
- Ability to maintain and adequately inventory parts
- Experience in analyzing electrical and mechanical equipment malfunctions and completing repairs to properly and safely return to service or appropriately escalate if a fix is not readily available
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot assigned tasks and responsibilities
- Ability to interpret building and equipment schematics and drawings
- Willing to work overtime, if needed
- Willing to work holidays and weekends, if needed
- Capable of meeting deadlines
- Capable of dealing with emergency issues promptly
- Effective communication skills
- Must possess basic computer skills
- Attendance must be in accordance with college policy
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Required to carry a cell phone and be able to work 24-hour emergency call
- Courteous and respectful demeanor, ability to work at all levels within the organization
