Job summary

Hypertherm is launching a Rotational Electrical Engineer program in New Hampshire and Washington, designed for final-year Electrical Engineering students. You will rotate between teams as a Design Engineer, gaining broad exposure to new product development, supplier quality, manufacturing support, and field troubleshooting.

  • Enrolled in final year of BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (Graduating Dec 2026 or May 2027).
  • Ability to perform tests and analyze routine problems with guidance from a senior engineer.
  • Understand fundamental design principles and maintain them in your work.

Responsibilities

  • Become a subject matter expert of electrical subsystems in plasma and waterjet systems.
  • Maintain and support released products; propose design changes and manage component obsolescence with suppliers.
  • Lead cost-saving or product-improvement initiatives through design changes and testing.
  • Analyze technical docs and test data to ensure designs meet specs.
  • Collaborate with procurement, engineers, PCB designers, technicians, manufacturing, and quality.
  • Maintain project timelines with clear verbal and written communication.
  • Develop engineering procedures to improve delivery of high-quality products.

Rotational Electrical Engineer

Launch your engineering career through our Rotational Engineering program. Join our dynamic team and leverage your skills while becoming an associate owner of our innovative company! In this role, you'll participate in several rotations between our New Hampshire and Washington locations as a Design Engineer to explore different areas of the business, gaining a comprehensive understanding of our operations before ultimately being assigned to a permanent team. You'll work alongside senior engineers to develop complex activities in support of each team's overall business goals. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, new product development, supplier quality assessments, manufacturing operations support, and customer/field support and troubleshooting.

This opportunity is an entry-level position designed specifically for students who will be completing their Bachelor's or Master's Degree this academic year and are ready to transition from the classroom into a full-time engineering role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Become a subject matter expert of Electrical subsystems within Plasma and Waterjet cutting systems, CNC, and THCs (Torch Height Controllers)
  • Maintain and support released products, including making design changes as part of sustaining engineering projects. Manage potential alternate electronic components to address obsolescence/ availability issues working with suppliers and driving the change management process. Provide expertise for maintaining regulatory, environmental and safety compliance for released products
  • Lead cost savings or product improvement initiatives by executing design changes, verification and validation testing, and contributing to business cases
  • Analyze technical documentation and test data to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
  • Collaborate effectively with procurement, engineers across business teams, PCB designers, technicians, manufacturing, and quality
  • Maintain project timelines by implementing interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Develop best engineering practice procedures by continuously improving existing processes to facilitate efficient delivery of high-quality products to customers
  • Apply sound and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments. Work hand-in-hand in a lab environment with critical lab technician support
Required knowledge, skills, education, and experience:
  • Currently completing your final year of either BS or MS in Electrical Engineering (Graduating in December 2026 or May 2027)
  • Contributes to designs, performs tests, and analyzes routine problems under a more senior level engineer's guidance
  • Understanding of the principles behind the current product design and ability to maintain those design principles in your designs
  • Basic engineering skills (analysis and implementation)
  • Some basic lab testing and evaluation skills
  • Ability to understand and follow project plans
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work well across teams
Preferred Experience that differentiates you:
  • Internship experience in electrical design of highly technical industrial products
  • Embedded systems experience with microcontrollers, serial interfaces, analog and digital circuitry
  • Knowledge of reliability design practices and regulatory design experience (UL/UL508, CSA , ICE, NFPA)
  • Strong CAD development experience, preferably Solidworks
  • Engineering instrumentation knowledge such as flow measurements, thermal measurements, oscilloscopes, data acquisition systems/software
  • Project management experience and/or certification
  • Experience in a Lean manufacturing environment
