DESCRIPTION

Are you ready to make a real impact on your community? The City of Corona is looking for a dynamic and driven individual to join our Public Works Department as an Associate Engineer in the Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) Division - Utilities Section.

In this role, you will be at the forefront of designing, rehabilitating, and building essential infrastructure that supports the City's water, wastewater, and reclamation systems. Your work will include treatment plants, reservoirs, pump stations, and expansion projects with land developers, shaping the future of our city.

Knowledge & Education
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • Civil and structural engineering principles, techniques, policies, and procedures.
  • Practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing and presenting effective staff reports.
  • Principles and practices of capital improvement program budgeting, cost estimation, funding, project management, and contract administration.
  • Principles and modern techniques and equipment used in the design, construction, and maintenance of streets and utilities infrastructure.
  • Contract management practices in a public agency setting.
  • Land development principles and associated documentation such as property legal descriptions and subdivision maps.
  • Principles and practices of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and soil mechanics.
  • Principles and practices of technical report and business correspondence preparation.
  • Software applications related to engineering design and construction, geographic information systems, computer-aided design and drafting, and databases.
Skills & Abilities
  • Perform a diverse range of professional engineering tasks in the design, development, and oversight of City civil engineering and construction projects.
  • Prepare, conduct, and evaluate engineering studies; research, analyze, and summarize data; perform accurate engineering calculations and cost estimates.
  • Review and assess studies or reports prepared by consultants or developers to evaluate their compliance with project specifications and requirements.
  • Oversee the work of construction inspection and/or design staff.
  • Ensure materials used in City construction projects are of the quality and quantity specified in contracts.
  • Prepare, analyze, understand, and interpret engineering construction plans, specifications, and other contract documents, and determine conformance with applicable laws and standards.
  • Assist in and develop and administer contracts for professional services and construction in a public agency setting.
  • Investigate field conditions for project feasibility and/or issues which arise during the construction process.
  • Conduct hydraulic modeling analysis.
Experience & Licenses
  • Three (3) years of increasingly responsible professional civil engineering or structural engineering experience.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.

This position is FLSA Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime compensation.

Candidates passing the screening and deemed most qualified may be invited to a virtual HireVue interview. In-person interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of June 16, 2025. The top candidates will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire.

The successful candidate will undergo a background check, including livescan, and pass a pre-employment medical exam including drug/alcohol screening.
