Job summary

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education/experience.
  • Novice understanding of the product development process and CAD applications.
  • Novice understanding of tolerances, schematics, and assembly processes.
  • Competent time management and ability to handle multiple duties.
  • Ability to communicate with internal and external customers in English.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret internal and external customer requirements to meet outputs.
  • Conduct technical product evaluations to identify potential failure modes and report results.
  • Communicate technical knowledge, specifications, and direction to customers.
  • Read and interpret schematics.
  • Create and input data using corporate management software including CAD models, BOMs, drawings, and cost analysis.
  • Complete tasks using predefined departmental processes.
  • Provide hands-on technical support for internal and external customers.
  • Collaborate on a team to accomplish tasks or processes.
  • Travel mainly for training, customer support, or trade shows (minimal).
  • Record daily activities.

Job description

This role is to provide technical support within the organization. Performs assigned tasks to support company goals. Much of the Associate's time will be spent producing output under the direction of an Engineer or Management in the form of tasks such as: test analysis, CAD models, drawings, reports, and other duties as requested.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Interpret internal and external customer requirements to meet desired outputs.
  • Conduct technical product evaluations to identify potential modes of failure as defined by existing documentation and report results back to internal and external customers.
  • Communicate technical knowledge, specification, and direction to internal and external customers.
  • Read and interpret schematics.
  • Create and input data utilizing corporate management system software that include CAD models, part documentation, bills of material, assembly documentation, and cost analysis.
  • Complete assigned tasks using predefined departmental processes.
  • Hands on technical support for both internal and external customers.
  • Participate on a team to accomplish given tasks or processes.
  • Travel mainly for the purpose of training, customer support, or trade shows. (minimal)
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Record daily activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Capacity to work indoors in an office, laboratory, and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Capability to lift objects or equipment weighing up to 51 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical aptitude to use basic hand tools in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to travel and/or attend meetings domestic and internationally outside of normal business hours.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Associates degree in a technical discipline, or the equivalent in appropriate education and experience as determined by management utilizing internal SMC career development criteria.
  • Novice understanding of the product development process.
  • Novice understanding to apply project management principles, methodologies, and documentation.
  • Novice understanding of CAD software as applied to product development process.
  • Novice understanding of tolerances as they relate to design intent.
  • Novice understanding of common assembly processes.
  • Novice understanding of schematics.
  • Competent at efficient use of time to effectively plan and execute multiple duties.
  • Competent understanding to utilize basic inspection equipment in a laboratory environment. (Calipers, micrometers, flow meter, voltmeter, etc.)
  • Competent ability to communicate utilizing corporate office software.
  • Competent ability to take verbal and/or written direction on tasks, training, or departmental / company policies.
  • Competent ability to communicate, in English, with internal and external customers tactfully and professionally.
