Job summary

SMC in Noblesville, IN seeks an Associate to provide technical support and assist engineers with test analysis, CAD models, drawings, reports, and other duties as assigned.

The role involves interpreting customer requirements, performing product evaluations for failure modes, and communicating technical information to customers. Proficiency with CAD data entry and schematics is desired. Occasional travel for training and trade shows is expected.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Novice understanding of the product development process.
  • Novice understanding of applying project management principles, methodologies, and documentation.
  • Novice understanding of CAD software as applied to product development process.
  • Novice understanding of tolerances as they relate to design intent.
  • Novice understanding of common assembly processes.
  • Competent at efficient use of time to plan and execute multiple duties.
  • Competent understanding of basic inspection equipment in a laboratory environment (calipers, micrometers, flow meter, voltmeter, etc.).
  • Competent ability to communicate using corporate office software.
  • Competent ability to take verbal and/or written direction on tasks, training, or departmental/company policies.
  • Competent ability to communicate, in English, with internal and external customers tactfully and professionally.

Responsibilities

Job description

Purpose

This role provides technical support within the organization. Performs assigned tasks to support company goals. Much of the Associate’s time will be spent producing output under the direction of an Engineer or Management in the form of tasks such as test analysis, CAD models, drawings, reports, and other duties as requested.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Capacity to work indoors in an office, laboratory, and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work in a stationary position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Capability to lift objects or equipment weighing up to 51 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical aptitude to use basic hand tools in a laboratory and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to travel and/or attend meetings domestic and internationally outside of normal business hours.
Minimum Requirements
