Job summary

Clear Destination Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer to advance chassis components in a dynamic team. You will develop and support production, lead customer technical reviews, and contribute to delivering high-quality designs for steering and driveline systems.

The role involves collaboration with manufacturers, participation in APQP processes, and a focus on DFMEA/DRBFM, validation, and in-field support. Growth and exposure to automotive electronics await in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • 0–5 years of automotive chassis electronics experience.
  • Experience with FMEA/FTA and structured problem solving (8D, 5Y).
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, CAN tools (Vector CANape), and related tools.
  • Familiarity with ISO 26262, SPICE, or CMMI is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with automotive manufacturers; collect and clarify customer requirements; lead technical reviews.
  • Analyze steering systems feasibility and prepare customer proposals; coordinate with JTEKT/Japan or customers.
  • Maintain open issues list to track milestones and deadlines.
  • Support benchmarking activities and propose product improvements (VA/VE).
  • Assist in prototype/pilot design, testing (DV, PV), and ensure customer expectations are met.

Job description

Summary:

In this role, you will report to the Applications Engineering Manager and be a contributor to achieving excellence in electrical engineering for electromechanical products including steering and driveline. You will develop and support production of a variety of new chassis components in a dynamic team, finding solutions to interesting challenges.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Routine interaction with automotive manufacturers, including international and service entities. Collect and clarify customer requirements and inputs. Lead customer technical reviews.
  • Be an active member of the project team. Analyze steering systems feasibility as well as prepare and present comprehensive customer proposals. Organize review with JTEKT Japan/Customer as necessary to assure the development of designs that meet or exceed expectations, safety and timing at the lowest cost.
  • Maintain an open issues list to ensure open items are being tracked and closed to meet internal/customer milestones/deadlines.
  • Support benchmarking activities and new product improvements (i.e. VA/VE)
  • Participate and assist in, prototype/pilot product design, build, and testing (DV, PV, etc.) to ensure that the customer’s expectations are met and/or exceeded.
  • Lead and participate in JTEKT’s internal APQP process (Quality Gate System). Lead and own each TC responsible gate. This includes but is not limited to building compliance charts per customer specifications, create and present design review material, create and or update DFMEA / DRBFM.
  • Work with suppliers to review component design capability and support localization of components
  • Participate in cross functional development teams within the company to develop and communicate program deliverables, priorities, and timeline targets based on customer derived expectations and internal requirements
  • Create CAN interfaces in embedded environment as well as test tools (Canape, Canalyzer…) for tuning, debugging or customer demonstration.
  • Review electric and electronic specifications and drawings. Provide improvements and optimization ideas.
  • Support the launch of new products into production as well as products already in production.
  • Work with the team to define and meet all customers (both external and internal) requirements and meet major milestones.
  • Create test procedures based on requirements, reports and DVP&R. Review and ensure test efficiency by validating in MIL / SIL / HIL / Vehicle environment.
  • Work daily overtime and Saturdays and/or Sundays when directed by immediate supervisor or, as necessary, to complete essential job duties

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge, understanding with design, evaluation and integration of vehicle control systems and/or vehicle sub systems, diagnostics, control modules/software, and electrical systems
  • Must have a good understanding of embedded electronics, automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Flexray…), and real time operating systems.
  • Working knowledge of Model Based Design process and toolchain for embedded software.
  • Problem Solving & Analysis: Able to gather appropriate ,often complex, data and diagnose the cause of a problem before taking action; separate causes from symptoms; apply lessons learned from others who encountered similar problems or challenges; anticipate problems and develop contingency plans to deal with them; develop and evaluate alternative courses of action
  • Self-starter with good verbal and written technical communication skills both written & oral
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is required. MS Preferred.
  • 0-5 years of related automotive experience with chassis electronic components required.
  • Experience with FMEA, FTA and structured problem solving techniques (8D, 5Y…)
  • Experience with Matlab / Simulink, CAN communication tools (ie Vector CANape), and/or other tools and processes related to automotive product development.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262, experience with CMMI or SPICE are a plus.
  • Familiarity with environmental, mechanical, and electrical verification testing methodologies in an automotive or environment
  • Familiarity with Vector CANoe / CANalyzer is a plus
  • Safety Critical Electric System (Steering, Brakes, powertrain…) development experience is preferred
Physical Demands:
  • Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard, typewriter or other office equipment.
  • Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone.
Work Environment:

Work is mostly performed in a normal office setting with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards, and with substantial time spent working on a computer.

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to manufacturing areas which require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection.

Travel by automobile and plane required approximately 10-15% of time.
