Job summary

Simon & Schuster is seeking an Associate Editor for the Emily Bestler Books imprint to manage a predominantly commercial fiction list. The ideal candidate is a thoughtful, meticulous editor with strong communication and a passion for marketable stories.

They will maintain relationships with authors and agents and monitor marketplace trends. The role supports editorial and publishing processes from manuscript development through production and publication, with 2–3 years publishing experience and

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of publishing experience at a general trade publisher, including supporting editorial and acquisitions.
  • Existing relationships within the agent community with an interest in expanding connections.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial fiction marketplace and emerging reader trends.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop productive relationships with authors, agents, and internal partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, establish priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials and support presentations for editorial and acquisition meetings.
  • Collaborate with publicity, marketing, sales, and publishing teams to package, position, and promote books.
  • Serve as editorial liaison with production, design, and other departments throughout the publishing process.
  • Review submissions, track prospective projects, and monitor marketplace trends and competitive titles.
  • Handle manuscript assessments and select projects as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with authors and agents through all phases from acquisition to publication.
  • Manage schedules, deadlines, and editorial materials to keep projects on track.

Associate Editor, Emily Bestler Books

Simon & Schuster is seeking an Associate Editor to help manage the predominantly commercial fiction list at the Emily Bestler Books imprint. The ideal candidate is a thoughtful and meticulous editor, a strong communicator, and an enthusiastic reader with a sharp eye for compelling, marketable stories. This individual will maintain relationships with the imprint’s authors and agents and monitor the marketplace to stay informed about emerging voices and trends.

The Associate Editor will help support the Emily Bestler Books editorial and publishing process, from manuscript development through production and publication. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 2-3 years of publishing experience who is ready to expand their industry relationships and take on greater responsibility within a dynamic commercial fiction program.

Specific Responsibilities Include
  • Preparing materials and supporting presentations for editorial and acquisition meetings.
  • Partnering with publicity, marketing, sales, and publishing teams to help package, position, and promote books.
  • Serving as the editorial liaison with production, design, art, managing editorial, sales, marketing, and publicity throughout the publishing process.
  • Reviewing submissions, tracking prospective projects, and staying informed about marketplace trends and competitive titles.
  • Handling manuscript assessments and select projects as needed.
  • Communicating effectively with authors and agents throughout all phases of the publishing process, from acquisition through publication.
  • Managing schedules, deadlines, and related editorial materials to help ensure projects remain on track.
