About the role

Join Takeda as an Associate Director, US Medical Neuroscience (Orexin) where you will serve in a critical role within the US Medical Affairs (USMA) organization. You will have tactical accountability grounded in science, disease state, and competitive clinical data in support of one or more products, and supports the development, and ongoing updates to relevant product-specific medical strategies, in partnership with Sr. Director, Director and Medical Unit. As part of the US Medical team, you will report to the Senior Director, US Medical Head - Orexin. This is a hybrid role based in Lexington, MA.

How you will contribute
  • As designated by the Sr. Director / Director, and representing for their specific area of accountability, the role serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), representing the USMA at the Global level for a product/franchise, on relevant internal committees. Further, the Associate Director drives overall medical unit insights, including ad boards, and communication to cross-functional partners.

  • Lead strategic and implementation support for clinical research (i.e. real world evidence, Phase 4 studies, investigator-initiated research) and digital initiatives.

  • Lead strategic partnerships where cross-functional activities merit Takeda-Partner relationship level coordination

  • Champion the integration of AI-powered tools, foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, and identify opportunities to accelerate digital innovation within US Medical Affairs. This includes proactively exploring new digital health technologies, analytics platforms, and real-world data solutions to drive efficiency and advance medical strategy.

Overarching Responsibilities
  • Tactical accountability grounded in science, disease state, competitive clinical data in support of one or more products.

  • TA and/or product focus may evolve, to support the priorities of the organization.

  • Oversee execution of medical strategies by the medical unit and partner with the PM to track progress against strategic plans, including the development + communication of periodic reports.

  • Implement and advocate for the use of AI-powered insights platforms and advanced analytics tools in ongoing research, advisory board analysis, and stakeholder reporting to inform strategic decision-making.

Execute against the US Product medical strategy
  • Support Sr. Director / Director to Lead/co-develop/coordinate with the medical unit and provide medical input into the near-term strategic direction for assigned product/franchise and/or specific area of focus.

  • Support development and ongoing updates to relevant product specific medical strategies, in partnership with Sr. Dir. / Dir. And medical unit, and in alignment with the commercial brand strategy and global product teams.

  • Support development of long-term lifecycle management strategy + tactics (HEOR etc.)

  • Collaborate with PM (as applicable) to develop and maintain medical landscape and insights to inform strategy.

Medical Expert
  • As directed by the Sr. Director / Director, serve as the in-house medical and scientific expert for therapies within the assigned TA and represent medical affairs at the Global level for a product/franchise.

  • Provide clinical expertise and understanding of the therapeutic area landscape and digital innovations in healthcare to support strategic execution of Clinical research as part of the Medical plans.

  • Generate Insights – Support execution of ad board strategy, which may be done in partnership with the PM (as applicable), and insights from field medical/additional sources.

  • Understand and Communicate Insights: Synthesize summarized insights + implications from relevant sources (e.g., ad boards, field medical) to medical unit and cross-functional stakeholders and update medical landscape + medical strategy (as appropriate).

External Engagement
  • Support insights developed through Advisory Boards, professional associations/meetings, and conferences etc.

  • Manage global interactions with US KOLs and vice-versa (subject to delegation from the Sr. Dir. or Dir. or the needs of the program).

Budget Management
  • Subject to delegation from the Sr. Dir. or Dir. or the needs of the program.

Execution / Content Creation
  • Partner with the medical unit functional leads to ensure strategic alignment related to execution of the relevant franchise / product medical strategy and how it is pulled through into tactics (e.g. Grants, Medical Communications (e.g. SCP, ICP, Slide Decks), Publications, Research, Field Medical, Etc.).

  • Support medical review of appropriate materials as part of medical and commercial review processes.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications

Required:

  • Advanced Doctoral Degree (e.g., MD, DO, PhD, PharmD) or other advanced degreed professionals considered depending on past relevant experience, including at least 4 years pharmaceutical industry experience, and/or clinical work, research, or academic endeavors.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with clinical research, publication activities, congress presentations, and public speaking.

Preferred:

  • Clinical experience treating patients with sleep disorders.

  • Experience with real-world evidence generation using AI or digital data sources, contributing to or leading digital innovation initiatives, or leveraging digital health technologies in clinical research or medical affairs.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Maintain minimum standards of education/certification in individual professional discipline

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel: Periodic travel required (20-30%)

U.S. Base Salary Range: $168,700.00 - $265,100.00

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.

U.S. based employees may be eligible for short-term and/ or long-term incentives. U.S. based employees may be eligible to participate in medical, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan and company match, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a tuition reimbursement program, paid volunteer time off, company holidays, and well-being benefits, among others. U.S. based employees are also eligible to receive, per calendar year, up to 80 hours of sick time, and new hires are eligible to accrue up to 120 hours of paid vacation.
