Job summary

University of Pennsylvania's Technology Licensing Office seeks an experienced professional to develop commercialization strategies for life science technologies. You will manage relationships with faculty, researchers, and industry partners to evaluate disclosures and lead licensing negotiations.

The role requires a Master\'s degree and 5–7 years of relevant experience in a higher education setting; PhD preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and sustain relationships with faculty and researchers in PSOM departments
  • Meet with investigators to identify technologies with commercial potential
  • Evaluate technology disclosures and recommend go/no-go decisions on patent protection
  • Present intellectual property and commercialization recommendations at weekly Patent Investment Meetings
  • Identify and engage industry partners and investors
  • Perform due diligence and technology valuation to inform deal strategy and structure
  • Lead negotiations of licensing and option agreements
  • Assist with sponsored research and other research-related agreements
  • Manage internal and external client and company partner relationships after agreement execution
  • Develop commercialization strategies for technologies and portfolios
  • Conduct market analysis and identify commercial opportunities
  • Prepare non-confidential technology marketing materials
  • Conduct outreach, seminars, workshops, and events for faculty, researchers, and trainees
  • Support programs promoting corporate partnerships and collaboration with Penn and PCI
  • Mentor and guide junior TLOs and trainees

Requirements
  • Master's degree and 5–7 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • PhD and 3–5 years of relevant work experience in a life science field strongly preferred
  • Understanding of the research environment, preferably in higher education
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Background check may be required after a conditional offer
