Job summary

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. seeks an Associate Director, Tax to lead the quarterly and annual income tax provision and manage federal, state, local, and foreign tax returns. The role requires strong ASC 740 expertise and collaboration with finance, HR, legal, R&D, and IT.

Qualifications

  • Nine to twelve years of progressive US corporate income tax experience (Big Four + multinational)
  • Extensive experience with ASC 740 is required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business, or equivalent experience
  • CPA required; Master’s in Taxation is a plus
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Oversee quarterly and annual income tax provision under ASC 740, including calculations, review, documentation, tax account reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures
  • Manage preparation and review of federal, state, local, and foreign income and franchise tax returns, including estimates and extensions
  • Handle IRS/state income/franchise tax notices and audits, providing strategic guidance
  • Lead technical tax research and guidance for the team
  • Direct preparation of tax account forecasts and monthly accruals
  • Lead significant tax projects from planning to execution, identifying risks and improvement opportunities
  • Ensure budgets, schedules, and performance requirements are met
  • Develop and mentor Tax team members
  • Lead ad hoc projects (e.g., Section 382 study, credit study) as needed

The Associate Director, Tax is a strategic position responsible for overseeing a variety of complex tax matters, including the management of federal, state, and local tax compliance and the income tax provision process. This role will provide leadership on day-to-day projects within the Tax team and will have the opportunity to collaborate with other functional groups, including finance, human resources, legal, R&D and IT, as well as external advisors.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
  • Oversee the quarterly and annual income tax provision process under ASC 740, including calculations, review, supporting documentation, tax account reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures.
  • Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, local, and foreign income and franchise tax returns, including estimates, extensions, and other related filings.
  • Manage and provide strategic direction for IRS and state income/franchise tax notices, audits, and information requests.
  • Lead technical research on various tax issues and provide guidance to the team.
  • Direct the preparation of tax account forecasts and monthly accruals.
  • Lead and direct significant tax projects from planning through execution, proactively identifying risks, dependencies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Establish and ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
  • Develop and mentor members of the Tax team.
  • Lead ad hoc/special projects (e.g., Section 382 study, credit study, etc.) as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Highly organized with great attention to detail.
  • Self-starter, with an ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and handle a variety of tax assignments in a fast-paced environment including being flexible to geographic time zones.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks appropriately, meet deadlines, execute with accuracy and recognize when issues need escalation.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, including pivot table and vlookup.
  • Responsibilities may require a work schedule that may include working outside of “normal” work hours, in order to meet business demands.
Required/Preferred Education And Licenses
  • Nine to twelve years of recent, progressive experience in US corporate income tax with a combination of Big Four and multinational corporate tax department experience.
  • Extensive experience with ASC 740 is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • CPA required; Master’s in Taxation is a plus.

For this role, the full and complete base pay range is: $160,000.00 - $240,000.00. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, and other pertinent factors. The goal is to ensure fair and competitive compensation aligned with the candidate's expertise and contributions, within the established pay framework and our Total Compensation philosophy. Internal equity considerations will also influence individual base pay decisions. This range will be reviewed on a regular basis. At Jazz, your base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus or incentive compensation (depending on the role), in accordance with the terms of the Company's Global Cash Bonus Plan or Incentive Compensation Plan, as well as discretionary equity grants in accordance with Jazz's Long Term Equity Incentive Plan.
