The Business and Technology Modernization team is a critical function within the US Vaccines Commercial Operations Business Unit. The Business Modernization & Commercial Excellence pillar maintains the modernization agenda and roadmap across NA Vaccines, managing a disciplined portfolio of value-driving initiatives. The team drives measurable commercial impact by modernizing business operations and technology through a disciplined portfolio of high-priority initiatives that build commercial capabilities and analytical rigor to accelerate time-to-value for customers and employees.
The Associate Director serves as the operational and executional lead for the Business Modernization & Commercial Excellence team and a genuine thought partner on the strategic questions that shape the modernization agenda. This high-visibility role offers rare exposure to the full commercial and business modernization agenda of a business unit in a top-10 global pharmaceutical company, including direct visibility into strategic planning and decision-making across Commercial, Market Access, Operations, Finance, and Digital functions. You will build the cross-functional fluency and executive relationships that accelerate careers across Sanofi's commercial, strategy, and transformation functions. The role acts as a trusted advisor to the Head of Business & Technology Modernization and senior commercial leadership, shaping strategic direction through rigorous analysis and structured problem-solving. The ideal candidate moves seamlessly between 30,000-foot strategic thinking and deep analytical execution and is equally comfortable pressure-testing a business case, structuring a leadership presentation, and connecting digital initiatives to business imperatives. Success requires the ability to navigate ambiguity, connect disparate information across sources and functions, and translate complexity into clear, actionable recommendations. This role demands intellectual ownership: anticipating what leadership needs before being asked, identifying emerging business questions, and proactively developing the analysis to answer them. This position is not suited for individuals who require extensive structure or detailed direction. The work is inherently ambiguous, priorities evolve throughout the year, and success requires the ability to take strategic direction and execute independently while continuously raising the quality of the team's thinking and output. Strong financial acumen, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams are essential. Note: The scope of this role may evolve as the team's priorities change year-to-year. Intellectual curiosity and adaptability are essential.
Own portfolio management and operations for the modernization agenda, designing and maintaining KPI frameworks, synthesizing portfolio value and health, and proactively surfacing risks, dependencies, and strategic tradeoffs to senior leadership.
Develop and codify analytical frameworks, decision-making methodologies, and strategic planning processes that become the standard operating approach for the modernization agenda.
Develop ROI models, cost-of-inaction analyses, and value realization tracking in partnership with Finance to demonstrate the financial impact of modernization initiatives.
Translate strategic direction, data, and analysis into clear, well-structured presentations and materials for quarterly business reviews, leadership updates, and stakeholder communications.
Design and maintain the operational infrastructure, including dashboards, reporting mechanisms, and decision-support tools that give leadership real-time visibility into performance.
Establish and manage the formal intake process for consulting requests, including scoping, timeline definition, deliverable specification, and project offboarding.
Develop compelling, executive-level presentations that distill complex analyses into clear business implications.
Drive adoption of modernization initiatives by designing change strategies, developing stakeholder engagement plans, and building the organizational capability needed to sustain new ways of working.
Contribute to the definition of new ways of working that enable functional teams to embrace modernization and translate strategic initiatives into practical, repeatable processes.
Lead or co-lead one-off strategic initiatives, developing structured problem definitions, analytical frameworks, and data-driven recommendations that inform high-stakes commercial decisions.
Support the operationalization of the Innovation Accelerator and contribute to building processes and habits that encourage continuous improvement across functions.
Support research and synthesis of market opportunities, competitive intelligence, and voice-of-customer insights to inform modernization strategy and business cases.
Leverage data analytics and digital tools to support data-driven decision-making and identify opportunities for process automation across the modernization portfolio.
Representative projects might include: building the financial case for a digital transformation initiative, developing a commercial operating model for a new go-to-market approach, synthesizing competitive intelligence to inform strategic planning, or designing the analytical framework for a quarterly business review with executive leadership.
