  • Ensure regulatory compliance with JCAHO/NYSDOH.
  • Interview, recruit, and hire personnel; conduct performance appraisals and disciplinary actions.
  • Develop, update and implement SPD policies and procedures.
  • Maintain standards for decontamination, cleaning, sterilization and storage of supplies.

Description

The Associate Director of Sterile Processing assists SPD leadership in the planning, organizing, directing and controlling the activities of personnel engaged in the production of patient care items for surgical and medical procedures. This individual manages the purchasing and production responsibilities to ensure adequate quantity and quality of supplies


Responsibilities

1. Participates in the development, maintenance and control of the SPD capital and operating budget for supplies, expenses and inventory accounts.

2. Coordinates and communicates with administration and hospital departments to ensure the effective and efficient operations and distribution of supplies and services for patient care.

3. Coordinates functions and sterile processing activities to comply with regulatory agency requirements (i.e., Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO) and New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

4. Interviews, recruits, and hires personnel in areas of responsibility. Completes employee performance appraisals, takes disciplinary actions and terminates personnel as required.

5. Assists in the development, update and implementation of departmental policies and procedures manuals as they relate to Sterile Processing operations.

6. Establishes and ensures maintenance of standards concerning decontamination, cleaning, sterilization, storage and distribution of supplies and equipment.

7. Establishes standards for quality control and infection control within the department and continually evaluates standards for revision and up-dating as necessary.

8. Ensures maintenance of adequate supplies and equipment including evaluating requests for and ordering of new equipment.

9. Ensures proper operation and maintenance of departmental equipment and arrange for repair or replacement as necessary.

10. Assists and counsels' supervisors and departmental personnel concerning work related problems.

11. Directs preparation and maintenance of departmental records and reports to be used as references and analyzing tools.

12. Works closely with departments utilizing sterile supplies in order to determine and evaluate need for new equipment or repair and replacement of equipment.

13. Ensures staff provides high quality infection control and patient focused services.

14. Maintains Membership with The American Society for Healthcare Central Service Professionals (ASHCSP) and/or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) preferred.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (Masters preferred), or equivalent combination of education and applicable SPD /managerial experience

Five years' experience in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room and management/leadership roles required. Previous management experience required

Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) certification required through International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)
