Job summary

Vertex is seeking a science leader to head the cell Foundry, driving stem cell‑derived islets for our Type‑1 diabetes program. You will manage a multidisciplinary team, push process innovations, and align efforts with Cell & Gene Therapy goals.

The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in molecular or cell biology (or equivalent) with several years of leadership experience in biotech, and demonstrates collaboration, budgeting, and regulatory awareness in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. (or equivalent) in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines with 4–7 years post-doctoral experience, or
• Masters degree with 7+ years experience, or
• Bachelors degree with 10+ years experience in related fields.

Responsibilities

• Lead the cell Foundry team to support T1D programs in stem cell and islet needs.
• Innovate, streamline, and automate stem cell expansion and directed differentiation processes.
