Job summary

Cooper University Health Care in South Jersey seeks an Associate Director of Revenue Cycle for the Surgical Services Institute. You will lead strategic revenue cycle initiatives, optimize collections, reduce denials, and improve financial performance while ensuring compliant processes across specialties.

You will partner with physicians, operational leaders, and finance to develop analytics, dashboards and Lean/Six Sigma improvements to drive revenue integrity and patient access.

Qualifications

  • Seven to ten years of healthcare revenue cycle experience.
  • Five+ years of leadership experience.
  • Experience managing professional revenue cycle operations in large organizations.
  • Experience with surgical specialties preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for professional revenue cycle functions across the Surgical Services Institute.
  • Develop and implement revenue cycle strategies to improve collections and reimbursement.
  • Monitor key metrics: charge capture, denials, AR, and cash collections.

Short Description

The Associate Director of Revenue Cycle is responsible for the strategic oversight, optimization, and performance of the professional revenue cycle across the Surgical Services Institute. This leader partners with physician, operational, and finance leadership to maximize revenue integrity, improve financial performance, enhance patient access, and ensure compliance with regulatory and payer requirements.

The Associate Director leads revenue cycle initiatives across multiple surgical specialties, utilizing data analytics and process improvement methodologies to improve key performance indicators while supporting exceptional patient and provider experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership for all professional revenue cycle functions across the Surgical Services Institute.
  • Develop and implement revenue cycle strategies that improve collections, reduce denials, optimize reimbursement, and strengthen financial performance.
  • Monitor and improve key performance metrics including charge capture, coding accuracy, accounts receivable, denial rates, clean claim rate, reimbursement, lag days, and cash collections.
  • Partner with Practice Administrators, Division Chiefs, physicians, and Revenue Cycle leadership to identify opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Collaborate with Coding, Patient Access, Patient Financial Services, Managed Care, Compliance, Clinical Documentation Integrity, and Finance to improve revenue integrity.
  • Lead denial prevention and appeals strategies through root cause analysis and corrective action planning.
  • Oversee revenue cycle dashboards and reporting, providing actionable recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Ensure timely and accurate charge capture and documentation processes across all surgical specialties.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize scheduling, registration, authorizations, referrals, and front-end workflows that impact reimbursement.
  • Lead multidisciplinary performance improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and state regulations, payer requirements, CMS guidelines, and organizational policies.
  • Support physician onboarding, education, and ongoing training related to documentation, coding, and revenue optimization.
  • Develop business cases and financial analyses supporting new clinical programs and growth initiatives.
  • Foster strong relationships across clinical, operational, and financial teams to drive accountability and continuous improvement.
Experience Required
  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible healthcare revenue cycle experience.
  • Minimum of five years of leadership experience.
  • Experience managing professional revenue cycle operations within a large physician practice, academic medical center, or integrated health system.
  • Experience with surgical specialties strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success improving revenue cycle performance through analytics, process improvement, and operational leadership.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required.
  • Master's degree (MHA, MBA, MPH, or related discipline) preferred.
License/Certification Requirements

Certified coder certification preferred

Special Requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of professional billing, coding, reimbursement methodologies, payer regulations, and revenue cycle best practices.
  • Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, CMS regulations, and commercial payer requirements.
  • Expertise in revenue cycle analytics and performance dashboard development.
  • Advanced financial analysis and operational problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship management abilities.
  • Experience with Epic and revenue cycle reporting tools preferred.
