Job summary

Boston University seeks an Associate Director, Post-Award Services, Sponsored Programs, to lead a team responsible for the financial review and reporting for sponsored projects in Boston. This role reports to the Assistant Vice President and focuses on ensuring accurate financial management and timely closeouts.

The AD will guide a high-performing team, deliver high-quality service to faculty and sponsors, and drive process improvements, including leveraging AI tools to enhance response accuracy

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred, in the fields of business, accounting, or finance. 8+ years of related experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality service to faculty, administrators, colleagues, and sponsors in managing the financial aspects of sponsored projects.

Position Type: Full-Time/Regular

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Sponsored Programs, the Associate Director (AD), Sponsored Programs, Post-Award, is responsible for developing and managing a team who oversees the financial review and reporting services for Sponsored research at Boston University.

Responsibilities
  • Include but are not limited to the review and approval of cost transfers, financial reports, and award closeout activities.
  • S/he is responsible for providing high-quality service to faculty, administrators, colleagues, and sponsors in managing the financial aspects of sponsored projects.
  • Developing and managing professional employees and organizing them into a high-performing team providing excellent service.
  • Delivering to both internal and external customers; ensuring all needs are balanced (sponsor requirements, compliance and programmatic).
  • Other projects as assigned.
  • The AD will also identify opportunities to apply AI solutions to streamline customer service interactions, improve response accuracy, and support faculty and departmental partners with data-driven insights.
  • The AD will have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities at the same time and will use their analytic data skills to support initiatives, process change, and improve team performance.
  • This includes leveraging AI-supported analytics, predictive models, and automated quality-assurance tools to monitor trends, assess risk, and inform decision-making.
  • The AD will work collaboratively with colleagues and peers, promote a professional environment at all times, and follows all service standards of the department.
  • The AD actively contributes to the overall needs of Sponsored Programs, participating in projects, training, and new initiatives.
  • The AD will also champion the responsible adoption of AI across Post-Award operations, supporting staff training, developing best practices, and ensuring alignment with University policies and compliance standards.

Required Skills
