In this role, the Operations Manager will partner cross functionally to develop, implement, monitor, and maintain Therapy of Excellences for Optum Specialty Pharmacy. In this role, collaboration with departments across front end operations, as well as P&L leaders, clinical services teams, pharma relations, finance, consumer experience, digital capabilities teams, legal and human capital will be critical to success. The successful candidate will have deep operational experience within specialty pharmacy, as well as a growth mindset to remove patient barriers to healthcare, while delivering on a market leading level of service.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Continuous refinement of the Center of Excellence (COE) in partnership with specialty leadership
  • Lead on program implementations and contribute to business process design, including systems setup, trouble shooting, and updates
  • Research drug releases and develop COE programs as needed to support drug utilization reviews, prior authorizations, outcomes, and disease state management
  • Collaborating and influencing with key partners to develop and monitor clinical and operational activities to ensure effective and efficient performance; continuing to strive for operational excellence
  • Creating and monitoring action plan to improve COE operational KPIs
  • Develop and maintain best practices and clear standard operating procedures that can be effectively utilized and executed to drive highly efficient business operations processes
  • Promoting a positive environment for staff and identifies and works with business leaders to address any issues that are creating barriers to an optimal work environment
  • Ensuring health equity goals are achieved through partnership with front end and call center leadership
  • Collaborating with technology & capabilities partners to drive operational efficiencies
  • Evaluates market trends and industry capabilities to understand and recommend how to position for a competitive advantage for the best client experience
  • Developing a seamless Prior Authorization/Appeals process that aligns with business objectives
  • Monitoring NPS and creating service improvement plans to enhance the patient, colleague, and provider experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy

  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist
  • 10+ years progressive leadership in operational or clinical roles
  • 5+ years specialty pharmacy operations experience
  • Experience developing, implementing, and operating new services
  • Experience influencing cross functional teams in a matrixed organization
  • Ability to travel up to 25%


Preferred Qualifications:

  • PBM experience
  • Experience analyzing data and using it to drive business decisions

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
