Job summary

South College in Knoxville is seeking an Associate Director of Library Services to oversee library operations, coordinate support services, and enhance the student experience through campus communications and collaboration with faculty.

This hybrid on-ground role requires a Master's in Library Science, prior library and supervisory experience, and a track record of organizing collections, training staff, and providing reference services.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Library Science or equivalent.
• Prior library experience required.
• Prior supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Library Services with assigned institutional responsibilities and initiatives.
• Provide leadership for the library department when the Director of Library Services is unavailable.
• Hire library department technicians and clerks in collaboration with the Director of Library Services and, when appropriate, the Instructional Design and Technology mentor and local campus leadership.
• Train and supervise library department technicians and clerks for their assigned campus.
• Coordinate Library & Instructional Technician tasks with Instructional Design and Technology.
• Coordinate Resource Center Clerk responsibilities with their local campus supervisor.
• Supervise and train local work study students in various library duties, as appropriate.
• Collaborate with campus leadership to promote the understanding of available library services and resources at each campus.
• Conduct orientations, research sessions, and workshops for library users to explain services, resources and policies.
• Provide reference and research services at the service desk and online through the library reference system.
• Maintain familiarity with the library collection and resources. Recommend print and electronic materials to support assigned subject areas.
• Communicate with assigned academic department(s) for collection development, and for the promotion and development of new user services and online initiatives.
• Participate in collection management, evaluation, and weeding decisions for assigned subject areas.
