Job Summary

The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) is seeking an Associate Director for the High Throughput Reaction Discovery and Synthesis Center (HT-RDS Center). The applicant will design and develop workflows for automated, micro‑scale parallel experimentation used for optimizing new reactions and for high‑throughput synthesis of libraries for biological screening. Additional responsibilities include creating policies and procedures for use of the center’s facilities by external groups and supporting research efforts of academic groups at UTD and affiliated schools.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in a related field; 5–7 years related professional experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

• An advanced degree is preferred; a PhD would be ideal.
• Experience in catalysis and synthetic methodology development, with background knowledge in laboratory automation, instrumentation, and data analysis.
• Experience developing workflows for micro‑scale parallel reaction optimization, small molecule synthesis, analysis of reaction mixtures, purification and characterization of reaction products, and working with air‑sensitive materials under inert atmosphere.
• Good oral and written communication skills for report and proposal writing, collaboration, and research presentations.

Other Qualifications

Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure as required under Texas law.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee a facility that supports micro‑scale parallel reaction optimization and high‑throughput synthesis of libraries for biological screening.
• Develop workflows for automated/parallel experimentation for use by academic groups at UTD, other external schools, and industrial users in a fee‑for‑service model.
• Maintain the facility’s instruments and perform general day‑to‑day administrative tasks.
• Purchase chemicals and consumables for the facility.
• Collaborate with principal investigators to incorporate new technologies and capabilities.
• Prepare periodical reports on the output and status of the facility for the principal investigators.
• Upgrade instruments and identify and purchase new equipment as needs grow.
• Identify and apply for external funding from government and private sources.
• Attend and present work at national meetings and other venues to showcase the centre’s activities and capabilities.
• Train and assist users—undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate researchers—on equipment use, user‑performed maintenance, and application of parallel micro‑scale experimentation for reaction optimization and high‑throughput synthesis.
