Job summary

The Nature Conservancy is seeking an Associate Director of Development I, Corporate and Foundation Relations to manage a 60-120 donor portfolio, cultivate major gifts, and lead CFR strategy. You will collaborate across the organization, coordinate the CFR pipeline, and engage senior leaders with proposals, site visits, and updates.

Travel as needed and flexible hours apply. Required: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years fundraising experience; strong donor relationships and cross-functional teamwork

  • Experience in asking for and closing gifts of $25,000 or more.
  • Experience in managing and tracking multiple prospects and donors.

  • Experience, coursework, or other training in fundraising principles and practices.

What We Can Achieve Together:

The Associate Director of Development (ADoD) I, Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR), reporting to the Director of CFR, manages a portfolio of corporate and foundation prospects and donors, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding institutions with the potential to make a major gift in support of TNC’s conservation priorities. To do this, they will work collaborative with colleagues across the organization, including other fundraisers, conservation staff and leadership, and finance partners to develop and implement effective multi-year donor strategies that include all the tools in a TNC fundraiser’s toolbox, notably engagement with senior organizational leadership, written proposals, reports and other updates, site visits, and personalized visits. The ADoD also leads the coordination of the CFR team’s pipeline process, identifying and qualifying potential institutional supporters.

Responsibilities and Scope

- Decisions may have program-wide impact and may bind the organization financially or legally.

- Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.

- Ensure compliance with TNC policies and procedures and external (donor/legal/IRS) requirements.

- Financial responsibility includes working within a budget and meeting fundraising objectives.

- Manage assigned projects, coordinating the work of peers and setting deadlines.

- May manage or participate in complex or sensitive negotiations.

- Persuasively convey the mission of TNC to varied groups who are important to the organization’s overall prosperity.

- Travel periodically, with ability to work long and flexible hours as needed.

- Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements and minor physical exertion and/or strain.

- Manage a portfolio of 60 – 120 donors with the capacity to give over $100,000.

- Responsible for 60 - 120 donor visits per year and 100 - 480 moves annually. Annual fundraising goal of $1,000,000 - $2,000,000, along with goals for $100,000 solicitations.

What You’ll Bring:

Desired Qualifications:
  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Ability to determine an individual’s interests, capacity, and potential for helping the Conservancy meet its goals, and act appropriately to tie those interests with the Conservancy’s work.
  • Ability to educate and inform prospective and existing donors about appropriate giving vehicles.
  • Ability to implement and manage fundraising plans, including individualized cultivation, solicitation, and recognition plans.
  • Knowledge of current trends in the charitable giving in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts or planned giving.
  • Demonstrated experience using listening, diplomacy, and tact to build strong relationships and motivate donors and volunteers.
  • Proven ability to negotiate high profile or sensitive agreements.
  • Working knowledge of the basics of charitable gift planning.
