We prioritize our work and people, seeking individuals committed to enhancing lives globally.

Associate Director, Medical Science Liaison GI/GU/Thoracic Texas
Purpose:

Scientific and Clinical Experts (SEs/CEs) are recognized for their expertise in specific therapeutic areas, requiring in-depth scientific information due to their roles in patient care, research, and education. The Medical Science Liaison (MSL) program supports these needs through a team of field-based medical professionals with deep knowledge of disease states, Lilly and competitor products, and the landscape in their therapeutic areas. MSLs gather and communicate strategic feedback from interactions with SEs/CEs to guide Lilly’s research, development, and commercialization strategies. They facilitate scientific exchange to shape future healthcare advancements.

Primary Responsibilities:

This overview outlines the general job requirements at the time of writing. Responsibilities may evolve, and additional duties may be assigned. Consult your supervisor for specific duties related to your role.

Scientific & Clinical Knowledge

MSLs aim to provide researchers and practitioners with precise, relevant scientific and clinical information, addressing clinical care gaps and clarifying complex questions. This requires synthesizing current research on products, diseases, and care standards, supported by substantial research or clinical training. Continuous learning is vital to maintain expertise, enabling trusted, unbiased information sharing.

Full Spectrum SE/CE Support

Using emotional intelligence and strategic thinking, MSLs serve as primary interfaces between Lilly Medical and SEs/CEs, fostering positive interactions and supporting evidence sharing to improve patient outcomes. They also connect SEs/CEs with other Lilly resources and collaborate on research opportunities, supporting clinical development and evidence generation.

Field Execution, Geo Management, and Productivity

MSLs analyze customer data, plan and prioritize engagements effectively through face-to-face and virtual interactions. They implement strategic territory plans, leverage analytical tools, and ensure compliance while coordinating with other Lilly field roles. Territory analytics guide customer engagement and routing.

Strategic Vision and Leadership

MSLs synthesize and communicate insights to Lilly Medical and cross-functional teams, exercise good judgment, and escalate issues appropriately. They build internal networks, collaborate across functions, adapt to change, and employ innovative resources. Teamwork and contribution to team goals are essential, along with adherence to all compliance and legal standards.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
  • Advanced degree in health sciences (e.g., PharmD, MD, PhD) with at least two years of relevant clinical or TA experience preferred. Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees considered with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. and a valid driver’s license.
Location & Travel:
  • Must reside within Texas and near a transport hub.
  • Willingness to travel up to 80%, including weekends.
Additional Preferences:
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, planning, and digital skills; familiarity with digital engagement platforms; experience in gastrointestinal, genitourinary, or thoracic oncology preferred.
  • Experience in field-based roles, understanding of health systems, and medical research highly valued.
