Overview:

Lilly recently announced a $4.5 billion investment to create the Lilly Medicine Foundry, a new center for advanced manufacturing and drug development. The first-ever facility of its kind, combining research and manufacturing in a single location, the Medicine Foundry will allow Lilly to further develop innovative solutions to optimize manufacturing processes and increase capacity for clinical trial medicines, while also reducing costs and environmental impact.

The Associate Director – LRL L&D Strategic Site Consultant will report to the Lilly Research Laboratories Learning and Development (L&D) Director with a dotted reporting line to the Site HR Director.

This position provides L&D strategic direction for the Lilly Medicines Foundry site. This position is responsible for defining, creating, managing, and maintaining the site learning strategy that drives and enhances organizational capabilities and ensures personnel qualification. The Associate Director is responsible for enhancing employees’ capabilities to meet site objectives, as well as ensuring that the processes for the development, review, approval, and delivery of training meet corporate and site quality standards. Additionally, the Associate Director will oversee performance consulting for business partners to assess critical business needs and recommend learning solutions that address capability and competency gaps. The role is responsible for cross-functional collaboration and consulting where appropriate with other Lilly learning leaders, key business partners, Lilly suppliers, and other L&D partners to ensure alignment between the learning strategy, curriculum architecture, and implementation of the learning portfolio. Also critical is serving as the interface with business and learning governance bodies as required to deliver an effective learning strategy, maintain training and procedure compliance, and enhance the overall learning experience.

To ensure state-of-the-art best training practices, this position will support other site L&D training initiatives, as required (such as facilitation, onboarding). The Associate Director creates and maintains two-way communications with L&D leaders, peers, and functional management. This position manages the cost center budget. The LRL L&D strategic site consultant is responsible for ensuring Lilly Medicine Foundry employees are trained and capable in technical, leadership, and operational tasks.

Responsibilities:

Learning and Performance Support

  • Performance Consulting
    • Build and leverage relationships with leaders and business partners
    • Effectively partner with all levels of the business and influence strategic learning solutions
    • Ensure budget requirements are included in the business plan, when needed
    • Anticipate and resolve complex problems
  • Strategy Development and Execution
    • Develop and execute comprehensive performance strategies to:
      • Ensure site employees are trained, qualified, and capable
      • Develop, maintain, and improve business processes and metrics to ensure the training systems are in control and capable to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
      • Create controls/reports/structures to ensure that all employees and contract workers are qualified and trained to execute their roles
      • Interface with auditors, inspectors, regulators, or outside stakeholders on business issues as required and provide post-audit/inspection responses as needed
  • Address short- and long-term large-scale solutions that support business objectives
    • Work in partnership with L&D leadership to scope and prioritize strategic and/or special projects
  • Learning Solution Analysis and Development
    • Conduct needs and target audience analysis to identify learning and performance gaps
    • Support development of innovative deliverables that provide meaningful and learner-centric solutions, as appropriate
    • Apply effective project management to ensure timely delivery of the performance solution
    • Effectively utilize technology to support development of learning and performance solutions (e.g., IT tools, video technology, etc.) and ensure they can be integrated with Lilly systems
    • Partner with Lilly select suppliers and manage procurement activities, as needed

Coaching and Personal Development

  • Establish a network of internal and external learning and business professionals and benchmark as appropriate

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, instructional design, performance technology, or related programs
  • 5+ years of experience in proactive strategic learning, capability development consultation, performance consulting, instructional design, and program/portfolio management

Additional Preferences:

  • Experience supporting training strategy for a Manufacturing site
  • Experience in developing training strategy and content, when appropriate, for a greenfield site
  • Experience in integrating Learning Management Systems (LMS) with access control systems to ensure that only individuals who have completed the necessary training and qualifications can access work areas.
  • Human Performance Improvement (HPI) Certification
  • Working knowledge of and/or experience in a regulated environment (i.e., GMP, GxP)
  • Knowledge of LRL business and structure
  • Demonstrated ability in communication, conflict resolution, using good judgment, and managing complexity
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a collaborative environment and build trust with internal and external business partners
  • Demonstrated ability to scope and lead learning projects
  • Demonstrated success in influencing without authority
  • Effective problem-solving skills to evaluate and resolve business and organizational problems
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects (multi-task) in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and drive change
  • Demonstrated ability implementing and supporting automated processes and workflows (e.g., developing innovative solutions such as AI tools, Power BI dashboards)
  • Experience supporting or participating in audits and inspections
  • Experience using Success Factors or other Learning Management Systems
  • M.S. degree in Instructional Systems Technology, Performance Technology, Adult Learning, or related experience/education
