Job summary

The American Bar Association seeks an experienced operations leader to serve as second in command to the membership entity Director, providing strategy and procedural guidance to member leaders and staff. You will act as the principal contact in the Director's absence and manage assigned staff, programs, and budget with development and monitoring responsibilities.

Responsibilities include leadership oversight for volunteer groups, ensuring policy compliance, and guiding long-range planning

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from four-year college or university or equivalent experience.
• 4-6 years progressively responsible supervisory and management experience in association, corporation, or comparable environment.
• Experience in program/project management, marketing, and budget development and monitoring.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Appropriate judgment, diplomacy and professional demeanor.
• Computer skills transferable to ABA tools and databases.

Responsibilities

• Work with entity Director to manage overall entity operations, administration and membership activities.
• In Director’s absence, serve as the principal contact for the entity including volunteer leadership, members and staff.
• Develop, monitor and report on entity budget ensuring financial goals are met.
• Supervise one or more staff members (direct and/or indirect).
• Recruitment, orientation, mentoring and annual performance evaluations for staff.
• Provide direction and oversight for volunteer leadership including meetings, training, project implementation, by-law and policy compliance, and long-range planning.
• Oversee high-profile projects including education, legislative initiatives, publishing, marketing, sponsorships and grants.
