Job summary

Caltech's JPL International Office seeks an Associate Director to supervise daily operations and advise on immigrant and nonimmigrant petitions. You will work with the Director to shape immigration policy for scholars and students, ensuring compliant, efficient processes.

You will lead the IO team, develop office procedures, manage communications with international scholars and partners, and coordinate with ISS and ISP to support Caltech and JPL communities.

Qualifications

• 6 years of international scholar or U.S. immigration advising experience covering both nonimmigrant and immigrant categories.
• 2 years of direct management of administrative and professional staff in an international scholar or U.S. immigration environment.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to initiate efficient and effective business practices and procedures; policy analysis and implementation.
• Must be a citizen or lawful permanent resident of the United States per 22 CFR §62.

Responsibilities

• Supervise JPL IO staff, including assigning tasks, leading meetings, providing feedback, and conducting performance reviews.
• Develop office policies and procedures and direct improvements.
• Manage communications with international scholars and partners for consistency of message and content.
• Provide direct immigration advising to scholars from pre-arrival to departure; prepare petitions and documents.
• Coordinate with ISSM/Trilby, DSO/ARO responsibilities, and outside immigration counsel as needed.
