As an Associate Director, Data Engineer on the Optum Health Analytics team, you will work with cross-functional teams and need to be confident working independently while handling and guiding the team. You should be detail-oriented and able to document low to highly complex functional designs and data structures in order to support business and operational requirements.

You’ll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design, build and launch efficient and reliable data pipelines to move and transform data while assembling large, complex data sets that meet business requirements
  • Build infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from wide variety of data sources including optimize data delivery and redesign infrastructure for greater scalability
  • Build analytics tools that utilize data pipeline to provide actionable insights into quality of care delivered, medical expense, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional collaboration across Optum Health national and local teams as well as other OptumHealth businesses to stay informed on key initiatives, elicit business domain expertise, learn the drivers of each business area, gather and consolidate data, and align on the analytics approach and insights
  • Bring innovative ideas to help continuously improve the architecture portfolio including the design, build, deploy, test and automate within hybrid cloud ecosystems
  • Build, administer, maintain, and production support of Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, and SQL (SSIS) servers and databases
  • Participate in troubleshooting and debugging critical problems and resolving complex technical issues that may arise in a hybrid cloud platform

  • Ability to prioritize and manage work to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
  • Capture business requirements that can be translated into technical specifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience integrating and mining large data sets to generate insights and inform business decisions
  • Proven ability to work independently toward team and business objectives
  • Experience with structuring data for effective utilization including sourcing, cleaning, managing, manipulating, automating, and optimizing output
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communications skills
  • Proven willingness to learn and adapt to different technology stack

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with programming and relational database software such as SQL, Snowflake, Azure, etc.
  • Experience with integrated service capabilities and scheduling/monitoring workflows such as Azure Data Factory, Airflow, dbt, Kafka, etc.
  • Experience with version control and collaboration platforms such as GitHub, etc.
  • Broad technology experience, including complex systems integration and infrastructure expertise with hybrid cloud platforms

The salary range for this role is $106,800 to $194,200 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with al minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
