Biogen is seeking an experienced Associate Director, Commercial Learning – Field Skills, to own the customer engagement skills across North America’s field teams. Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including 5+ years in field sales and 3+ years in Commercial Learning.
  • Experience building a program, capability, or function from the ground up within a new or evolving organization.
  • Experience developing selling or customer engagement capability across multiple brands.
  • Experience supporting product launches in Neuroscience, Rare Disease, or specialty care brands.
  • Experience in reimbursement, key account, or buy-and-bill environments is a plus.
  • Deep expertise in pharma/biotech commercialization, customer engagement, adult learning principles, and program design.
  • Strong field sales experience with credibility among field teams and leaders.
  • Strategic, enterprise-focused mindset with ability to build scalable cross-portfolio solutions.
  • Proven ability to influence and lead across functions without direct authority.

  • Travel up to 30% domestically.

About the role

Biogen is seeking an experienced commercial learning leader with a strong field sales foundation for the role of Associate Director, Commercial Learning – Field Skills. This role owns the customer engagement skills capability across Biogen’s North America commercial customer-facing teams — defining the skills our field teams need, building the programs and practice that develop them, and raising the level at which they are applied with customers. The role operates across both strategic and executional work, with elevated accountability for strategy, prioritization, stakeholder leadership, and capability-building impact. This is a remote position.

What You’ll do

Lead the short- and long-term learning strategy for North America customer-facing teams, aligned with brand, franchise, and enterprise priorities. Define core selling and customer engagement competencies by role and tenure, including assessment approaches. Build scalable development pathways from onboarding through advanced proficiency across roles and therapeutic areas. Design and deliver learning programs across live, virtual, and blended formats covering consultative selling, business acumen, customer engagement, and value-based dialogue. Establish and maintain a consistent customer engagement framework across brands and therapeutic areas. Partner with training teams to embed customer engagement capabilities into brand and disease-state learning programs. Collaborate with Field Leadership Development and Account Management to create an integrated capability-building and coaching ecosystem. Serve as a trusted advisor to Commercial, Patient Services, and field leaders, recommending solutions tied to business outcomes. Measure learning effectiveness and partner with analytics teams to connect capability development to performance results. Evaluate and implement emerging learning technologies, including AI-enabled coaching and practice tools. Manage external partners, vendors, budgets, and program governance. Engage with field teams to identify skill gaps and recommend targeted interventions. Ensure all learning initiatives comply with Biogen values, policies, PRC requirements, and applicable SOPs. Domestic travel expected up to 30% (e.g., field engagements, workshops, regional and national meetings, headquarters visits).

Required Skills

8+ years of professional experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including a minimum of 5 years in field sales and 3 years in Commercial Learning, capability building, or a comparable discipline. Required: demonstrated experience building a program, capability, or function from the ground up within a new or evolving organization. Experience developing selling or customer engagement capability across multiple brands, business units, or therapeutic areas preferred. Experience supporting product launches and/or Neuroscience, Rare Disease, or specialty care brands preferred. Experience in reimbursement, key account, or buy-and-bill environments a plus. Experience Deep expertise in pharmaceutical/biotech commercialization, customer engagement, adult learning principles, and learning program design and facilitation. Strong field sales experience with credibility among field teams and leaders. Strategic, enterprise-focused mindset with the ability to build scalable, cross-portfolio solutions. Proven ability to influence and lead across functions and organizational levels without direct authority. Executive presence and credibility with senior commercial leaders. Education, Registration & Certification

BS/BA degree required; advanced degree a plus but not required. Certification in a recognized selling, coaching, or customer engagement methodology preferred.

Additional Information

The base compensation range for this role is: $171,000.00-$235,500.00 Base salary offered is determined through an analytical approach utilizing a combination of factors including, but not limited to, relevant skills & experience, job location, and internal equity. Regular employees are eligible to receive both short term and long-term incentives, including cash bonus and equity incentive opportunities, designed to reward recent achievements and recognize your future potential based on individual, business unit and company performance.
