Job summary

Mercy University seeks an Associate Director of the Clinical Simulation Laboratory to oversee operations in the School of Nursing. The role partners with faculty to ensure high-quality clinical learning experiences and safe, effective simulation environments.

The position supervises lab activities, coordinates scheduling, maintains equipment, and supports instructors and students in clinical labs. Strong leadership in simulation best practices is essential.

Qualifications

• NYS Registered Nurse License required.
• Clinical Simulation Certification (CHSOS/CHSE) required.
• Experience managing a medical skills learning lab, with recent medical-surgical experience.
• Familiarity with safety standards and practices in lab/classroom settings.
• Knowledge of or experience with Artificial Intelligence in simulation.

Responsibilities

• Manages daily operations of the Clinical Simulation Lab, including scheduling simulations and managing lab equipment and supplies.
• Supports planning and utilization of skills and simulation in the Nursing program.
• Assists instructors and students in the clinical lab setting.
• Ensures lab/classroom is clean, safe, and organized and enforces safe lab practices.
• Repairs or coordinates repair of lab equipment as needed.
• Collaborates with faculty to ensure lab experiences meet course objectives and oversees student practice and remediation of technical skills.
• Maintains, coordinates, and monitors open lab sessions.
• Operates the patient simulator during sessions.
• Participates in debriefing sessions to ensure best practices are applied.
• Recommends new lab materials, equipment, and experiments; implements simulation activities as required.
• Establishes and updates laboratory policies and procedures.
• Assists in preparation and maintenance of records and reports for nursing labs.
• Keeps current with developments in simulation technology and learning theories.
• Plans and schedules open and structured lab utilization times for students and faculty.

Job Summary:

The Associate Director of the Clinical Simulation Laboratory provides support for all simulation and clinical learning laboratory experiences in collaboration with faculty and staff to manage and supervise the clinical operations in the School of Nursing Department’s Clinical Simulation Center.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

• Manages daily activities and services of the Bronx Clinical Simulation Lab, including: scheduling and conducting clinical simulations, lab set up, lab breakdown, and management of lab equipment and supplies.
• Supports the planning and utilization of skills & simulation in the Nursing program.
• Assists instructors and/or students in a clinical lab setting.
• Ensures that the lab/classroom is clean, safe, and organized; promotes safe lab practices. (i.e.) washing sheets.
• Repairs or coordinates the repair of lab equipment as required.
• Collaborates with faculty to ensure the Center’s experiences meet course objectives; provide oversight during student practice and remediation on technical skills.
• Maintains, coordinates, and monitors open lab sessions.
• Operates the patient simulator during simulation sessions.
• Participates and assesses debriefing sessions with instructors following skill & simulation sessions to ensure best practices
• Researches, evaluates, and recommends new lab materials, equipment, and experiments.
• Implements simulation activities as required.
• Establishes and updates laboratory policies and procedures.
• Assists in preparation and maintenance of a variety of records.
• Assists in preparing reports as needed for nursing learning lab.
• Stay current with developments in the field of simulation technology and learning theories.
• Participates in planning, monitoring, and scheduling for students and faculty by ensuring open and structured lab utilization times are available, communicated, and appropriately resourced.
• Performs other duties as assigned. OR Other duties may be assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

• NYS Registered Nurse License
• Clinical Simulation Certification (CHSOS/CHSE)
• Work experience managing a medical skills learning lab. Recent medical surgical experience.
• Safety standards and practices used in lab/classroom settings.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelors of Science Degree from an accredited institution required.

Physical/Other Requirements:

• Must be able to push, pull, move or lift up to 50 lbs.
