Job summary

The New York Genome Center (NYGC) seeks an Associate Director/Director to lead analysis, interpretation and reporting of molecular diagnostic tests, including genome sequencing for constitutional genomics, carrier screening, and oncology assays such as MRD.

The role includes building scalable variant-filtering infrastructure, mentoring staff, and collaborating with lab leadership to translate sequencing into clinical practice.

Qualifications

• PhD or MD in biology, genetics, biochemistry, or a related field.
• ABMGG Board certified in Clinical Molecular Genetics and Genomics or related board.
• The position may be filled at Associate Director or Director level depending on post-board-certification experience.
• 4+ years post-board-certification experience in Exome/Genome Sequencing interpretation and reporting preferred for Associate Director; 6+ years for Director.

Responsibilities

• Identify, annotate and investigate clinical significance of genetic variants in NGS-based assays.
• Interpret and sign out reports for clinical genome sequencing from multiple projects.
• Develop and validate new NGS-based tests and scalable infrastructure for high-volume clinical testing.
• Co-lead efforts to integrate genome sequencing into medical practice.
• Mentor junior team members.
• Create and disseminate precision medicine knowledge of variant-disease associations.
• Improve infrastructure for variant filtering and prioritization for clinical reporting.
• Participate in educational activities in the Clinical Laboratory.
• Explain test results to ordering providers and recommend additional testing.
