The Associate Director, Campus Recreation is responsible for the evaluation, creation, implementation, and supervision of Campus Recreation programs that include but are not limited to fitness, wellness, club sports, intramural sports, personal training and aquatics. The Associate Director, Campus Recreation supports the facilitation of the transformational learning experience by engaging students in a comprehensive wellness and activities program to develop and promote healthy lifestyles, leadership development, lifetime skills and sportsmanship.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Direct, supervise and evaluate comprehensive Campus Recreation programs. Programs include but are not limited to fitness, wellness, club sports, intramural sports, personal training and aquatics. Work within, and help to formulate the Wellness Model for the entire division (Wellness + Recreation) and follow NIRSA standards and stay informed on trends.

2. Implement, promote and organize additional programming to include certifications, outreach programs, collaborations with campus partners and assessment of all.

3. Assists in the development of assessment and evaluations tools to improve engagement and services. Provides ongoing feedback and recommendations regarding program enhancements.

4. Assist the Director with short- and long-term planning, budgets, strategic planning, goal-setting and assessment.

5. Manage all certifications and affiliations of all Campus Recreation professional staff and student-employees to include CPR / AED and First Aid certifications, affiliations with NIRSA , WIRSA and other national organizations, and teach courses.

6. Responsible for managing American Red Cross courses, must be an instructor of such certifications, and departmental risk management plans.

7. Responsible for the supervision of staff which includes but is not limited to hiring, terming, disciplinary actions, performance management, staff development, etc.

8. Collect and compile department utilization statistics.

9. Provide guidance and leadership to staff, students, stakeholders, and the university in the leaders absence. May be asked to attend meetings, committees, etc. at the leaders discretion.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation/Sport Administration, Student Affairs/Higher Education, Educational Leadership/Administration or similar

CPR / AED /First Aid Certified

Minimum of six years of related experience

Supervisory experience

Demonstrated skills in developing effective working relationships

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Organizational skills and ability to solve problems required

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Master’s degree in Recreation/Sport Administration, Student Affairs/Higher Education, Educational Leadership/Administration or similar
