Job description

Job Summary

The Associate Director, Business Intelligence leads Revance's enterprise reporting and analytics capability: the Power BI platform, the BI development team, and the next generation of self-service intelligence tools that let business users ask questions in natural language and receive advanced, visual answers. Partnering with Data Engineering and with stakeholders across commercial, finance, supply chain and operations, this leader sets the reporting standard for the company. Dashboards should be accurate, trusted, widely used, and built to a level of polish and ease of use that reflects the Revance brand. It is a hands‑on leadership role in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment where much of the BI roadmap is still being written.

Key Responsibilities
  • Next‑generation self‑service intelligence: Build and own a capability that lets business users query enterprise data in natural language and receive advanced, context‑aware responses, including visualizations generated on demand. Remain platform‑agnostic in evaluating and scaling the options, among them Power BI Copilot and Q&A, Snowflake Cortex Analyst, Databricks Genie, and web‑based or embedded conversational analytics applications. Establish the governance, accuracy testing and enablement that make these tools trustworthy.
  • Power BI quality and utilization: Own all aspects of the Power BI platform and hold every dashboard to a high bar for accuracy, performance and usability. Drive adoption by measuring utilization, retiring low‑value reports, and closing the gap between what is published and what is used.
  • Semantic layer: Collaborate with Data Engineering to design, build and govern a shared semantic layer serving both curated dashboards and self‑service intelligence, with consistent definitions, certified measures and efficiently modelled master data sets, so a metric means the same thing everywhere at Revance.
  • Reporting standards: Define and enforce Revance standards for BI deliverables, covering templates, layout, brand‑coherent color and visualization conventions, so reports consistently meet the company's expectations for ease of use and analytical sophistication.
  • Business partnership: Work directly with business stakeholders to translate business requirements into intuitive, decision‑ready reporting, probing the underlying decision behind each request.
  • Team leadership: Build and lead a high‑performing BI team spanning onshore and offshore resources, including a Manager, BI and a team of BI developers. Coach and develop talent, set delivery standards, and keep a distributed team aligned across time zones.
  • Portfolio and delivery management: Oversee multiple BI projects end to end, managing timelines, resources and stakeholder requirements, and run intake and prioritization with the leadership team.
  • Reporting strategy: Assess reporting requirements across the enterprise, own the long‑term reporting strategy, and translate it into operational plans aligned to business priorities and budget.
  • Data integrity and platform operations: Ensure data accuracy, consistency and integrity across all BI reports and underlying models; monitor performance, troubleshoot issues, and use Azure DevOps and deployment pipelines for ALM.
  • Governance and risk: Operate a control framework that minimizes risk, establish a clear ownership model for Power BI artifacts, and adhere to Revance's Data Policy guidelines.
Requirements

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, computer science, statistics or another closely related field.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in business intelligence.
  • 7+ years in business intelligence or analytics, with deep hands‑on Power BI experience
  • 3+ years leading BI or analytics teams, including managing or working through offshore and distributed resources
  • Experience delivering AI-assisted or natural language analytics (Power BI Copilot, Snowflake Cortex, or comparable LLM‑based query interfaces) strongly preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of business intelligence and data warehouse environments, including system administration, dimensional modelling, semantic layer design, security, reporting and analytics, on a modern data platform such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Synapse, Snowflake or Databricks
  • SME in data visualization and modeling in Power BI to answer both routine and abstract business questions
  • Broad Microsoft stack skills across SQL Server, Power BI, Power Apps, DAX, M (Power Query), SSIS and Excel; strong practical T‑SQL is essential, and DAX, M and XMLA proficiency is expected
  • Demonstrated strategic focus, with the capacity to shape a vision and take accountability for advancing business intelligence objectives
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, able to engage stakeholders across the full range of data literacy, from beginner to expert
  • Proven track record managing end‑to‑end BI projects, and comfort in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment with shifting priorities and limited precedent
  • Life sciences, medical aesthetics or consumer health experience a plus
